Found this on eBay a couple weeks ago and it just showed up tonight. I love the Kyosho Gallop and Gallop MKII's. Another one of those RC's that I wanted when I was a kid. Now I've got one! :D

It was listed as a "Kyosho Mud Star" so I don't know how many folks were even aware it was out there. I got it pretty cheap (to me) and it is actually in really good shape. I dont think it was run much based on the condition of the tires/wheels and the chassis doesnt have any dings or scratches in it. I have a new in package full roll cage and bars kit that I'll put on it when I start the restore process. I'll need to get one of those resto wings and decal sets coming though.

The battery that came with it is "COX RC" so thats kind of an added bonus if you're into having everything period correct.

Nice, that brings back memories...I remember the Gallop being a pricey unit, and with the 4-wheel steering, it handled TOO well...as a result, it was less "fun" to drive because you could barely make it fish-tail. :P

Not at all! You gotta admit there's a certain element of fun that can ONLY be had with a vehicle--scale notwithstanding--that can spin the rear tires and fish-tail. :) I remember the marketing video for the Gallop, it cornered on a dime but it just seemed slow compared to the Optima/Turbo Optima. I also remember some RC mag's review of the Gallop pretty much saying the same thing....that it cornered & handled great, but lacked that ability to break loose.

Of course, that was probably all with the stock tin-can motor in mind. :)

EDIT: Also, on the track where the handling of the Gallop might've been desireable, the clunkiness and weight would've more than negatively balanced out any advantage.

All that said, the Gallop was a really cool car, technologically advanced for it's time, and looked great too!

Great score! Mislabeled ebay ads are the best.
It's much nicer than mine. I found this train-wreck in the summer:
part 1
http://tsanrc.blogspot.com/2010/07/kyosho-gallop-4ws-part-1.html
part 2
http://tsanrc.blogspot.com/2010/07/kyosho-gallop-4ws-part-2.html

I even stupidly paid $60 or so for it.
