stealth diff question
stealth diff question
i have three strealth tranny's at the moment.
in the manual it shows a spring behind the thrust bearing. while rebuilding my 10t diff i noticed that it didn't have one.
so i tore open another stealth and it didn't have one either.
i rebuilt the 10t's the way it came apart and it's buttery smooth, is the spring necessary?
i didn't open up the one in my ce to check if it had it, but the other two (which are new to me and i this was the first time i took them apart) are missing this spring.

Re: stealth diff question
the spring isn't behind the thrust balls, it's in the other outdrive behind the t-nut.

Re: stealth diff question
without the spring, you'd have to crank down on the screw to actually tighten the diff. can you run it like that, yes. but if your car/truck pushes like a dump truck in corners, and you can't dial it out, you know what's wrong.
i bet all your really feeling is the diff balls rolling on the diff rings. hold the outdrives stationary with 2 screwdrivers through the slots in the outdrives and try and to turn the diff gear.

hmm, mabey it's stuck in there, because when i took everything apart it wasn't in the pile of parts.
but when i put it back together and tightend the screw the diff feels perfect, not locked and not too loose.
i'm going to have to tear it down again and check.

Re: stealth diff question
That happened to me with my T3. I thought I lost the spring and looked all over the place for it. I didn't figure out it was stuck in the outdrive until I put a new spring in there and couldn't get the screw to thread through.Ruffy wrote:The spring may be jammed up in the outdrive.
