Mid Custom Special ' SLIPPER' ideas.

Post by Bormac »

Im looking to fit a slipper assembly to my Mid Custom Special vintage racer.
Im not looking for an ultra modern solution with B4 spurs or anything but if anyone might have a suggestion to help me fit 'ROBINSON' type spus that would be great.

Cheers-Jason

Fitting robinson type spurs is not hard, but it conflicts with your desire to put a slipper on I think.
Doesn't the custom special already have that tiny slipper 2 metal plates and 2 little disks of what looks like sandingpaper?

Use vintage wheels and tires and don't glue them :-)

Yeah the original slipper isnt much (in my opinion) but its more so the fact I want to fit aftermarket spurs.

Thanks for the suggestions with the tyres guys.........

hey Jason,

On one of my optima mids, I used and A&L slipper. To do this, you have to fabricate a new top shaft...but it's really easy to do. Below are the parts you'll need:

A&L slipper
Grasshopper rear axle
5mm x 8mm bearing
Larger spring to fit over the top shaft. You can probably use one from a traxxas slipper.
4mm wheel nut holds everything in place
Standard 48 pitch spur gear

I was on ebay trying to find the parts list and I just realzed that you can probably use a standard traxxas slipper. You'll just have to modify the top shaft to make sure that it fits the mid.

If you don't need a slipper: trinity made a small busshing that fits the center of a standard spur and has an inner diater of 4mm.
easy to reproduce. Parma delivered a small adapter with their fluo red lightweight spurs. the adapter fits in the spur and you add a 4X8mm bushin or bearing in the center. I think these spurs can still be bought but don't know about the fluo green adapters that came with them. The other adapter included was for a JR-X2; kind of gives away that does spurs came on the market long ago. I hae both solutions but never tried either with the standard slipper...
