Tuned Up Freebie *New Pics!!*

Post by PBR Allstar »

This is my first post on the forum so I thought it appropriate to show my new find! But before I go into the details let me first say it's an awesome site! Anyway, My boy is turning 9 this month, thought he's about the age where he can appreciate real rc cars, he's really into Lego's and building just about anything, and he's pretty anal about things he builds, he really takes car of them. So next week he will be the proud owner of a tamiya grasshopper! I did figure though, that my nitro car and truck would probably not make a suitable sparring partner for the tamiya car. Fast forward a few days and I'm talking to my friend who's really into planes and I'm telling him that I need to find an electric buggy yada yada yada... low and behold he dissapears to his garage for a minute and comes back with an early gold tub stealth car!!! the car is dirty but in very nice shape overall! I ask him what he wants for it to which he replies "take it, I'm never going to use it!" So off I go. I got it home, rebuilt the shocks, went though the tranny and diff, installed some servo saver/bellcrank parts from my GT spares (I'm not sure how this will work but it looks promising) and threw a set of bearings at it. I picked up a duratrax esc and orion 27t motor from tower along the way for motivation. It was a ton of fun going through the car and really made me think back to the 6 gear car I used to have with a leathal weapon and trinity silver dot some 16 or so years ago. Here are some pics of the old girl post clean up, now I really need to find a body anyone know of one that isn't backordered???

Yep, I got a new job lately (I'm involved in Cosmetics, Perfumes and Toiletry form now on...) and I had also a lot of job preparing my rigs for the new off-road season, chek-out my updates in the Reader's Ride section and comment and/or critic  I really love this place and all you guys that make it so sweet to be... don't worry, I'll never be off, definitely 8)

I spend all day on the PC verifying the grades and completion of college courses so I got the media player jamming and a firefox page open with yahoo mail in one tab and rc10talk in the other, and sometimes eBay in a third.

So I am on most of the day. But when I get home to the wife and kids and Everybody Loves Raymond, my PC time falls off quickly. Except when I go straight to a customers house and work on their PC. Gotta love second jobs but I get paid well for that one :D
I guess it helps when you own the business

yeah, I acctually ordered up a couple protech bodies this evening from tower (I noticed the body in the pic is a sprint car body, but the part number was right???) I also got some other parts for another project that is materializing out of some boxes of "junk" from the same friend that he dug out for me this afternoon, and that would be the makings of an RC10T. Unfortunately the tub has been "cut" for weight savings, and it's pretty scraped up on the bottom. fortunately the person who cut it only cut down the sides of the tub about halfway down, right at the widest portion of the tub. I think I'm going to clean it up and little bit and cut a nice taper up to the bulkheads from where it was cut down towards the middle (didn't massami h. run a car with the tub cut like that way back when???), after that I have a friend that does powder coating, so I think I'm going to try that on the tub. Anyone have any experience with coating a tub???

thanks again for your compliments!

welcome to the board. hella sweet freebie...

hopefully tower gets the bodies back in stock soon, other than that you may check other online hobby shops or local ones. i just backordered some from tower and figure i'll be patient.

ae powdercoated some tubs back in the 80's and they are nice, so i wouldnt imagine you would have any problem powdercoating the tub.

Got my protech bodies from tower (ordered an extra for the future) so hopfully I'll get one fitted this week seeing how work goes. I did get a chance to run the car around the parking lot a little bit, had some glitching problems, but those went away after soldering a couple capacitors on my motor. I seem a bit undergeared though? what are you guys running for a nice balance of speed and torque? I'm running a 27t double orion motor, currently with a 15t pinion and an 87 spur (it's what I had handy) and it runs out of legs pretty quick but it does have torque for days!!

On Another Note: the other tub I had for the 10T is powdercoated and on it's way back to me in the mail, my buddy wouldn't say what color he went with, but he did say it looked pretty sweet (I told him to do it any color he wanted, just not a light one), so I'll be sure to post some pics when it shows up!

with gearing, it all depends on what you want to do with the car. where are you gonna be using it mostly? the 87 spur is definately to big, though. especially if your just ripping around in a parking lot. i'd atleast but an 81 spur on it, or something close to it, and go bigger on the pinion for a 27t motor.

Okay, here it is with the Protech 2 body. The body painting was a bit of a disaster which you can read about in my thread from the day before yesterday. But in the end I guess it will probably look pretty good for a runner, and I learned alot about masking and faskolor (I learned that I'm not totally sold on faskolor yet,,,,, but I'll keep trying because a lot of people swear by it) So anyway, here it is for your vewing enjoyment,,, about 100 dollars total investment.
