Re: TC's pure RC10 CE Restoration (7/14 w/pics)
Seems like I have a lot of irons in the fire, and I do. I picked up a lot of RC10s and one of them was a CE Stealth. No extra holes in the chassis and all the parts were there except for the electronics.
I'm going to make this a pure restoration for shelving. I found a neat concoction that cleans the nylon parts extremely fast before whitening. A combination of Clorox spray cleaner, simple green and Zep branded CLR takes the grease and rust of great. Leave them in the solution for about 2 hours, take a tooth brush to them, rinse and into the peroxide. I left some extremely dirty parts in over night, and they came out pretty white....
So here are before shots of the CE:

Re: TC's pure RC10 CE Restoration
every single white piece has been cleaned, using a combination of Spray-Nine, CLR, hot water and simple green. After leaving them in that mixture for 3 days, each piece was scrubbed with a tooth brush, then deposited in 3 different jars of Hydrogen Peroxide for like a week.
The parts are WHITE.
In fact, I have too many parts.
Pictures tomorrow night.
This weekend, I'm going to strip the ano off the chassis. Just need to find a place to ano the chassis and shock bodies for me for less than $125. I'm looking for the $50 range......

Re: TC's pure RC10 CE Restoration
This brings me to something that I have discussed with a few of the purists here, I don't know how many here care, but this whitening trick has some notable side effects such as ashing of certain runs of the Caddy era nylon, and the fact that 3 days in good sun makes the parts at least 3 shades whiter than they ever were from the factory. I'm not saying it isn't a neat trick, and that
some cars and or builds don't benefit from it but some cars that I have seen almost look funny, I mean to say that AE nylon was never meant to be the same color as RPM parts Anyway sorry TC for the Hyjack, just something you said in the whiteness of the parts seemed like a good chance to mention that - BTW Nice project started-you have a nice stealth CE there is it a B or C stamp?

Re: TC's pure RC10 CE Restoration
I actually haven't cleaned the chassis enough to be able to see what stamp it is. Tons of dirt and build up.
As for the whitening, I agree! But you should have seen the parts before I started cleaning. Any whiteness is whiter than what they were......

Sorry TC, like I said the post wasn't directed at you-just the way you said WHITE made me remember a conversation with a few others

Re: TC's pure RC10 CE Restoration
So as a quick update:
Stripped the anno, whitened the parts. Starting to put this one back together now, but haven't taken pictures. I think I will put some pictures up tomorrow night. (I have class tonight).
Also, I have decided against a pure restore (no kidding lol).n I'm going to put a B4 slipper/top shaft on it, B3 CVDs and 2.2 wheels.

Re: TC's pure RC10 CE Restoration (9/22 w/pics)
so here are some pictures of where I am at right now. I swear I need to slow down and work on one at a time......
Laid out flat.
I really like the clean non anodized look of this. I think I am going to take it apart again before I get to far into it and wax the hell out of the chassis. Not looking for it to be shiny, just protected
So, after I had cleaned all the parts, I chose a bulkhead to dye black for the RHSC part 2. Not realizing that there was a difference in the bulkheads, I ended up dying the CE's bulkhead black. I realized the mistake as I was putting this one together. You can tell from this picture that it has the long wing tube holes rather than the short ones of the CE's bulkhead.
Side shot. The car is pretty straight, and the parts came out fantastic. I put brand new bearings in the Stealth transmission, and the casing came out wonderful after the cleaning/peroxide process.
This is probably the only thing I am not happy about right now. If anyone has a front nose plate that isn't banged up or gouged that they are willing to part with, I would rather get one here than on the bay. This was the better nose plate of the 2 that I got with this purchase. The other one had extra holes drilled smack dab in the middle of the A and the E.
