What has happened to Losi?
I have not really been following racing or anything lately, so forgive me if this is a dumb question, but what has happened to Losi? It seems like a lot of their top drivers are no longer with them, they have not come out with any new 1/10th race cars (XXX, XXXT), and it seems like the vintage stuff does not have the same value as it used to? I am sure that some of that is due to the economy, but is that all there is to it? I was just curious what other people's take was on it, or am I way off base?

Speaking of customer service I've recently been having very bad experiences with 1:1 performance part companies. Does anybody care about the products they sell anymore??

Re: What has happened to Losi?
I see your point, but if my Dad build a company to support my racing, I dont think I could sell it out and go work for the compitition thats pretty lame. I dont care how much he got for it. its not like Losi still isnt doing well. thats the problem with America these days everyone is selling out to over seas companys and then wonder why our country is falling apart.RCveteran wrote:Gil cashed out. Good for him, many would say it is the American Dream; of course then 30 seconds later call him a sell out.![]()

Re: What has happened to Losi?
Just like everything else. The cheapening in America. All our local hobby store has is Trax"ass" crap. Every single kit and 90% of the parts . Cheap plastic. People do not know any better. They never had any old RC10's, Ultima's, or Optima's. They don't know what a real racer is. Sales seem to all be to bashers that think they have the baddest until I clean them with a real car.
The Fox, Falcon, 9 RC10s black/gold/graph, Optima Mid SE EXT, Losi XXXT, B3, B4, 3 T4s, Evader BX, Evader ST, Buggy Champ '09, Sand Scorcher '10, RC10T, RC10DS

Re: What has happened to Losi?
You know it seems like every hobby shop is all Traxxas now? how sad is that. back in the day when I worked at a hobby shop Traxxas parts were unheard of. complete junk you couldn’t get parts for. now their like cock roaches everywere.
You know if I was Gil Losi Sr. my son going to Kyosho would be like spitting in my face. I would sell my soul to open my own hobby shop, much less have one of the most successful RC companies ever made handed to me. all he had to do was not run it into the ground and he would have had something to pass to his children. now his Namesake now its just something else made in China? I would have went bankrupt before I sold out my dads company to the Chinese. Sorry to keep on ranting but this really rubs me the wrong way.

Gil Losi SR was the actual owner of Team Losi, Sr sold Team Losi to Horizon. Jr stayed on board a couple of years as product designer, left for Kyosho, then left Kyosho to form AKA with Mark Pavidas and Joel Johnson.
Before Sr sold Team Losi they were struggling to keep the doors open being a "race company". I don't like it either but racers are only about 15% of the total RC market. Horizon is a corporation that is in it to make money, at least they kept the Losi name alive.

WOW! That is a whole lot of information I knew nothing about. I knew that there was some relationship with Horizon Hobbies, but did not know the extent of it. It is a sad thing indeed.
