2010 Vonats Racer Build( New Chassis color (s)

Post by Charlie don't surf »

I have decided this year to attend the VONATS, and although I am able to run Scr8ps car from last year I decided to do one of my own--Harris style

I have just roughed it together, and went over to my "local  " hobby shop and was looking for threaded bodies, B4 slipper parts and a few other pieces and came back with these older FT turnbuckles and some stock B4 carriers and castor blocks only :?

I prepped it to be sent off for anno' and a funny thing happened. I have stripped other chassis for random projects and they have never come out like this one, it's really growing on me being almost white and I may have to strip another for anno and keep this one as is

There is a snowflake pattern that has emerged throughout most of the main chassis during the strip/etch process, I have not been able to get the motor plate or the nose to do the same thing though :| Weird

Car will have threaded shocks, Atlas towers and may be a different color soon

nice work, only problem leaving unanodized for any period of time is that it could oxidize, i had that happen with a few chassis's i had in my shed i never anodized yet

i am prepping my TRX1 hopefully soon too

Take 1 and polish it with semichrome polish, you'll have the only chrome chassis at the race.......

That's why I am torn, I don't really like the polished cars ( sorry Dad ) but I do really like this finish and I think it looks really clean and fresh-

I am going to strip another, and have it anno'ed

Awesome CharlieDon'tSurf!
If I had a choice, I'd go with a clear ano'd chassis that looks like yours over anything else that I have ever seen. I really like what you have done here and it looks fantastic!

Gives me an idea to do a BoxArt like this, with the shocks looking the same instead of polished as I have done them previously. I really like it.
:D

Another close up of the "finish"

I am etching another as I type, and am going to send out for a sample color of the Kinwald blue
and I want to see if the color changes the look of the aluminum

that's cool....that's the grain of the metal as it was formed and tempered....nice and consistent.

I vote for clear anodizing, it shouldn't effect the finish too much, it might darken it I guess.

nice build Reg! What about white for the anodized color? I may have seen it before, but not that I recall. It would make the black parts pop out a bit more, which might look cool.
