B4.1 trying to look vintage

Hi Guys,
I'm new to the board and tried to do a body vintage style for my b4.1 brushless. I used printable clear and white vinyl for the decals. The window netting is black printed on clear applied from the inside. The wing was added "old school" style by attaching a couple tubes on the inside with nylon wire ties. My skills are currently limited to tape and spray paint so anything more than that I resort to decals. I created all of the decals in illustrator including the side logo with the old formula one car. I used wire to make the wing attachment and then nylon bolts, nuts and washers from a hardware store to attach it. I originally wanted to fit a 6160 body, but none were in stock at the time I ordered

When I first got the body and I saw the front wouldn't clear the shock tower, I was very disappointed...I actually just started free hand cutting with and exacto ( a little at a time), and I think it turned out fitting better than if I planned it. I was so stupid as to think that the viper body would directly fit onto the B4.1!!

My only regret was not using a proper orange. All I could get at the time was the Tamiya orange (ps-7 maybe?). I've now ordered some pactra fluorescent orange for another project that will hopefully be closer to the old school orange. Not sure though, because I couldn't really find a definitive answer anywhere about the "real" orange.

Oh, and when the yellow wheels are on this body, it looks pretty cool too (it's kind of a "citrus" looking theme LOL).

Very nice, you hit the nail on the head. I lkike this orange too, it really pops! I have a couple of cars with a monochromatic theme going on, i didn't paint either of them but they are growing on me.

I like the idea... and I'm not sure which car I'll race when the indoor season starts (I sold my B4 a few months ago). If I pick up another b4 I'll do it retro-style with one of the spare period shells I have laying around, but more than one color though... looks good and gets people talking

Sidenote: the B4.1 uses hex nuts on the front wheel axles????

Yeah, I was going to try for the blue/white stripes but it just didn't look right with the viper body. I actually designed contoured stripes for the body and side panels "retro" style in illustrator, but when I printed them and temporarily put them in place, it just didn't look right. I think in the end, the simplicity of the look is what gives it the overall retro feel.

I just can't warm up to the new futuristic cookie cutter bodies that buggies have these days. To me, the true dune buggies will always be in the style of the 80's versions. The stock b4.1 body isn't as bad as *some* that are around, but I knew when I decided to get one that I'd have to get a replacement ASAP.

It's kind of a "ghetto" rig, but it works. 1. it's solid enough to run, and 2. I didn't need to permanently modify anything.

Basically I used 2 metal tubes, and attached each one as shown in the pics with wire tires.

I like this idea. It's kind of the opposite of the "what's new is old" theme of chassis building. I Have a B2/3 project that I was considering putting an older body on when I get done, now I'm really thinking hard about it!

I have some schumacher tires ordered for the rear (full spike) to give it even a little more of a vintage look, too. I really want to do a protech body the same way. That will probably not happen until after summer though.
