New BBT Project

Post by RedScampi »

I got this is a trade from matthew john(Thanks Matt!). I just got back from Hawaii and don't have to go to work until Monday so I'm starting the tear down for resto. It's kind of rough but I think it has potential, besides, I love a challenge! I appreciate any input as to exactly what it is, what's missing, etc. I may post a needs list in BST as well. I couldn't resist spending a little time working on one header. I straightened the flange plate and exhaust tip and polished on the aluminum and brass a bit. (I realize the rear cage is on upside down!)

It looks like it's a Vindicator..some things are different..the side panels are home made I think..the originals had louvers..and the tail section is off an Ascot ... looks like a great project that could eat up a heap of cash..

I'm hoping not too much cash! Can you tell me what in particular is the expensive part on these - or is it an accumulated cost thing that sneaks up on ya? :P I've been going through boxes and I have a lot of new or near new parts on hand that I'm going to use. I'm not going for a total restoration to original, at least for now. I'm going to put it together the way I like it. I've got some nice stainless tunbuckes, new RPM rear arms, nice CE front arms, a stealth transmission (or I might use one of the aftermarket transmissions I won with the RC10DS last week). I've been straightening and sanding on the cage. Someone made some trackside adjustments with a pair of pliers in a couple of spots! If the side panels are home made they are very well done. They are mirror imaged exactly and the bend at the bottom edge is very crisp, holes lined up perfectly. I am super jazzed about this project so I've put everything else aside to work on it. The one thing I'm hoping to get is a set of aluminum wheels for it. That will be the big ticket item I bet!

By the Way

Anyone know what this piece is? I'm beginning to suspect it does not belong to this car. This is a solid bar with no holes in it.

Yeah I saw that..I don't think it belongs to this car though..if you already have most of the parts it won't cost you too much..you just missed a nice set of alloys for one of these that another member was selling..you can buy nice upgrades from barts parts http://www.rdent.com/sprint/sprint.html including the alloy wheels I used..as for the side panels after having another look I think that they may also be off a Ascot..

Yeah, I just found this picture of a similar car. Seems to be more or less identical:

Your cage is different..down tubes from top of cage..and the nerf bars ( radius rods ) are different as well..extra cross brace..

Ahh, now I see. I suppose there were several companies making these things. All similar but none quite the same.

Dang , i didnt realize that project car was a mix of parts :?

that extra nerf bar thing was a strangler that i had in a pile with all the sprinter stuff i had, also them white plastic things, came with the sprint stuff i got, figured it went to a sprinter.

hopefully itll turn out good! nice job on them headers!

what do you got in store for that kyosho /rc10 sprinter?

looking forward to more build pics!!
