Hot Trick Ultima

Post by RC10Eh »

Hi guys ,
Well, I finally beat you all out on what i think is a pretty good find. Ebay Item # 110423621381 , Now, i know the rims are a bit tarnished , the chassis is used and that poor old tranny has seen better days , but on my budget, I cant afford those pristine shelf queens.
I received the car today and think i did ok, I do have a few questions for you all , so please offer comment on the following......

1- Tecnacraft rims , Looking for advise on cleaning them up, I will need some new machine screws for a few are missing, any idea on size ? As far as the finish, i don't mind the " used " look , and was going to get some mothers paste and hand buff them out ( No Mechanical buffing ! )

2- I am a little puzzled on the Transmission , having not seen this type before , again, any input would be greatly appreciated . also would be looking to find the inboard belt that is missing. Am i right to assume that this is also a Hot Trick Item .

3- I have never been a huge fan of Hot Trick Items, but I don't remember seeing too many swing arm cars from them , any others out there ?

Thanking you all in advance for any input you might have ....

Great find. I saw it to late. :x
Tec rims will have to be taken apart and buf the aluminum outer pieces. and clean the inner rims. If you wanted a really nice shine yo woudl have to go thru a process of very fine sand paper washing etc. etc until it was smooth again then buff with you mother's paste to a brilliant luster !
Tranny looks like a Trackmaster with a hot Trick side plate. I may have the inner belt u need I will locate it if u want. Enjoy the restoe process. I have a Hot Trick Ultima with mainly new parts awaiting some attention.

looking forward to full size pics: the trackmaster tranny did not have an external belt. I'm guessing the outer spur and belt system are hyperdrive...

This is the third type of rear arms I see from them for the ultima: the other 2 were simple H-arms, but had different patteerns on the cut-outs.

Now that you have sent better pics, it appears that someone may have custom made that piece for the tranny. Maybe from an old Hot Trick chassis stock??

The spur doesn't look like a hyperdrive part... might be custom fitted from another application like a printer or copier. The pitch looks the same though (standardization has its benefits sometimes). Do you have an assorted pinion to drive that belt?

Does it just appear this way, or can you adjust the wheelbase? The topdeck suggests you could move the frontbulkhead about half an inch further forward.

the standard ultima is pretty short next to an RC10, so it would make sense to have a longer wheelbase option on an 'upgrade' chassis like Hot Tricks'.

Thanks Guys ,
The pinion on the motor is tiny , and it does look like a retro fit item . I thought maybe this was a stock unit of some sort but i tend to agree with you , retro for sure Wierd thing is , i have always had a thing for belt drive cars ( and tall blondes but that is another thread lol ) and have always kept my eye open on any belt pinion and spur combinations that i could fit on a car or even boat. This unit seams to be too perfect . Wondering if others have seen anything like it. That combined with the red G10 on the transmission?? noisy as hell i might add, so i will be replacing that , hint hint nudge nudge :)

Adjustability on the wheelbase , i looked at that also , with all the holes in the transmission area , only two line up, makes sense because the swing arms have no adjustability , unless i am missing something. As Far as moving the front forward , yes , the top deck would allow the front bulkhead to move forward, wheelbase as it sits now is 10 1/2 inches . Skid plate is much like an RC10, and i was pleased to see Houge bell cranks also , that is my second obsession hmmmmmm Houge ( thanks again Daryl  )

You know, i have never cared for the Hot Trick stuff , i have other items but never put them on any of my cars . I am however impressed with this car . looking forward to cleaning it up and lookin good. 8)

Thanks for the input, i will be posting a few more pictures shortly.

That front end is not a stock Hot trick as I know it. It looks good though.

Is there another set of 3 holes in that silver nose to correspond with the longer wheelbase holes in the topdeck?

This is the Hot Trick Ultima front end braket you would excpect with the additional holes for the extension of wheelbase.
