simple green is the most cost effective i have used and i think it will be what most will say to use. this is the way i would say to go about cleaning parts.

i have also used brake cleaner with good luck. but a can don't do very much and is most likely one of the least cost effective ways to do it. also note that brake cleaner can not be used on all plastics. so test it out on a part you can afford to destroy.

other things i have tried which didn't do any better than simple green were: soft scrub, bleach, misc cleaners with bleach, oxy, purple stuff, ect.

Purple power and heavy degreasers can "tint" some of the nlyon, Oxyclean is always a safe bet

........and if you can do it outdoors...........Boiling bleach bath 50/50 works great to open the pores in the nylon and whiten up

Rit (Rit Dye) makes some color remover and some whitener products. I've used that in the past and it worked very well. Boil the parts in a bath of Rit. Make sure you have good ventilation or your wife will complain.....I know that from experience. It smells terrible.
