hey tamiya guys.......
got a question. i'm planning on picking up a subaru brat re-issue. i always liked those when i was a kid, but never had one.
being as though this is pretty much the same as the frog re-issue, are they the same as the original, gearbox/drivetrain wise?
another question i have, does the super blackfoot have the same gearbox and axle setup as the blackfoot, monster beetle, frog, etc.?
reason i'm asking is a couple months ago i was looking through a box of thorp/dirtburner stuff at my lhs. i was looking for 48p gears for the asc stock trans. there was at least 9-10 complete thorp diff setups for the super blackfoot. so, if it would work in the new brat re-issue, i'd like to get one for it. just want to know for sure before i would buy one.

The original brat had a spool with no diff.
The re-release frog came with the same old problem prone diff it always had but the out drives were improved to a dog bone setup instead of the original hex bone setup.
The super blackfoot used a different gearbox which Tamiya carried over to the King blackfoot. So these thorp diffs are not compatible with the older frog stuff.

Shodog is correct. Original Blackfoot parts are not necessarily compatible with Super Blackfoot parts. I've learned that the hard way many times with my Super Blackfoot. The super Blackfoot actually eliminated the half shafts that were so notorious for stripping and replaced them with dogbones.
Since you mention you have access to some Thorp super BF diffs, could you shoot me a PM if you would be able to pick one up for me. Here is a pic of my Super Blackfoot as it stand today

Honestly Jay your not missing much. here was my old Avante that I ended up selling.mrlexan wrote:
I still want an original Avante, it intrigues me... that one escapes my collection.

It looked super cool but it wasn't very efficient. I drove it maybe three times then pulled the electronics out of it. I guess I really didn't give it a chance considering I also have a Losi XX4 which is heads above this buggy in everyway.
Yeah but Sho, Being nuts is NEAT! LOL got to love the Tamiya sayings!shodog wrote:Honestly Jay your not missing much. here was my old Avante that I ended up selling.mrlexan wrote:
