Re: Just in case you didn't know.....
If the cops came to anyone here's door and arrested them they would want rights read to them. Whether or not you did anything, you would expect it as your right.
I'm not defending the bastard, I think they should hang him from a tree in a swamp and let animals slowly chew parts off. Give the f**ker an IV and keep him alive long enough so he can feel the pain of losing a limb... Then when he is limbless, fix him up enough, throw his ass in jail and let him suffer through it with the reminders the rest of his life. If I have to pay for him to be in Jail, that's how I would like it to be!

Good question and I think we all have an educated guess as to what they would've done.

Re: Just in case you didn't know.....
Believe it or not, I do understand the anger that some of you guys have. I've been there myself. After witnessing the attack on the World Trade Center with my naked eyes, I had all kinds of spectacular execution scenarios running through my head. I suppose it's natural to want an extreme form of vengeance, especially when you're scared out of your mind.
As the years have passed, my attitudes have changed considerably. Do I want the guilty parties dead? Sure I do. Do I want them tortured? No. Carrying that kind of hate inside you does not make for healthy living. It only eats you from the inside. Nothing positive can come of it.

You think that the police and military searching homes for a terrorist is wrong? Telling people to stay in there homes for their safety is wrong?
If I lived in the area IDE be glad to to follow those rules. And what now. Are you excited to pay taxes the rest of your life for the money that's going to shelter and feed this guy that murdered several of people for who knows what reason. Those people don't get a fair chance at living. They were stripped of life in 1 second. That's how fast they should strip him of his.
Yes I am upset that this person is not getting the rights that the rest of us are granted. Yes, his not getting them does mean that our rights are also stripped. He is a naturalized American citizen. He has the same rights as you and I. Read him his rights. Give him a trial.
Yes I think the police action in Boston was totally absurd. When has something like that ever happened in our country? Yes, police and military searching citizens homes without a warrant is wrong. Like, fundamentally wrong, or so says the Fourth Amendment to the United States Constitution. They don't do this on a daily basis for other criminals, known killers, rapists, etc. They don't lock an entire city down where there is a serial killer on the loose. They don't do it when there is a violent robbery followed by a high speed chase. They didn't do it when people were flying airplanes into skyscrapers.
This whole "war on terror" is absurd. You can't declare war on a method of fighting. It makes no sense.
MA, I see clearly your valid points. If we can't see the forest for the trees, we will all end up without any due process somewhere down the line.
I suppose the real crux of this whole thread is what determines when a citizen has crossed the line to no longer receive the normal protection of our common laws?
'Terroristic' activity against masses of innocent people(mass casualties)? Declaration of war, be it religious or not?
Those two are definitely not the same, but do they both get treated in the same manner regarding our rights as citizens?
Just trying to put forward outward thinking on this situation. Hopefully more can chime in with positive debate on this.

Re: Just in case you didn't know.....
I think if you start allowing the government the power to arrest without any conscious effort towards our constitutional rights, then the more it's allowed, the more the constitution has no meaning. It simply becomes a piece of paper in a museum somewhere where someone tells you a story of how we were once a free people. Those laws cannot be "ignored" for special circumstances. Even this one.
The thing I wrote above about the swamp, would be my ideal sentence after a fair trial in a court of Law.

I'd say you've hit the nail on the head. We're already half way to having the Constitution and Bill of Rights be nothing more than pieces of paper in a museum.Orange wrote:I think if you start allowing the government the power to arrest without any conscious effort towards our constitutional rights, then the more it's allowed, the more the constitution has no meaning. Bob, "terrorist" is blanket term. One that the government uses to invoke "special" laws and actions. There is no hard legal definition of terrorist or terrorism. Somehow 9/11 was a terrorism, and so was the Boston bombing. How can those two acts be labeled the same?

I have been refraining from posting in here. I see both sides. But if you can't see how this and 9/11 are not both acts of terrorism then you need to go check the definition. Acts of predetermined violence on innocent people pretty much describes both incidents.

Love it!
If anyone has ever wondered what my avatar picture of Al Pacino references, don't click on this youtube link (especially if you're at work due to language). But it pretty much references some of the replies in this thread.

Re: Just in case you didn't know.....
Please tell me, what is the definition of terrorism then. Outside of the fact it's violence directed at innocent people. Were Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris terrorists then? I have never seen them described that way. What about Hiroshima, was that a terrorist attack? Dropping a nuke on a civilian target? What about the cops breaking up Occupy protests? Those were acts of predetermined violence on innocent people. What about the ATF's actions against the Branch Davidians in Waco TX? State sponsored terrorism?jwscab wrote:I have been refraining from posting in here. I see both sides. What an intelligent reply flipwils11. You should take his advice, or maybe try to contribute something besides somebody else's soundbite. The adults are trying to have a conversation here. Feel free to join in if you've got something to contribute.
Jason, you're totally right. Having said that, it still boggles my mind that people are so willing to give up their rights out of fear of an undefinable war.

I composed a few replies, mostly utilizing difficult to comprehend concepts that would back you further into a corner based on your limited intellect, logic, and aptitude. Do your homework, many on this site might surprise you with their intelligence, backgrounds, education, and real life pressures. We come here for release, and after a long day running multiple million/billion dollar businesses, speaking in colloquialisms and small words with simple concepts is a welcome respite.MelvinsArmy wrote: What an intelligent reply flipwils11. By the way, my YouTube link was not even directed at you as I (had previously enjoyed) reading some of your points in this discussion.
Now how about you eat some crow and let the adults in this discussion manage things from here.

Do share MA, what is your background? Are you a US citizen? If so how far does your family go back? How would you make this country radically different?
You know so f'ing much, why don't you wax poetic in this thread so we can listen and take in your input? And then others will revel in destroying your points, if it's even worth our time to do so.
Bring it on big man, I am waiting for something remotely worth reading.

Oh wait, I'm going to bed now, darn. I'll sleep like a baby knowing you are composing something really good, really biting in its criticism and shaky logic response, that ultimately is worth no one's time because it accomplishes nothing on an RC forum about toy cars that we come to for fun.

Sorry, I didn't realize I was talking with a dozen captains of industry and therefore my opinions on this are void. That changes everything. Brother, can you spare a dime? I am a lowly peasant working two part time jobs with no real life pressures of my own. I can't possibly imagine what the weight of the world feels like on your shoulders. My limited intellect, logic and aptitude (whatever those big words mean) gets me into trouble whenever I speak with someone of your caliber and accomplishment. Please forgive me, I sometimes forget that the servant class is not allowed to express their opinions with someone from the ruling industrial class.
Seriously, that last reply was incredibly pompous. I know I was a bit of a jerk in my reply, but you really hit it out of the park with that one. If you're hear for a reprise from your stressful day running the world, why would you enter a political discussion? You know what's going on in this thread. Nearly every other thread on this site is about something much lighter than this. Yet you choose to participate, then get upset when someone says your "Don't waste my motherfucking time" soundbite is juvenile and throw away. You are the one who's wasting your time. If it was directed at me or not, I don't care.
fwiw, I'm not at all surprised by many on here's background and intelligence. I've been here since day one, I've got an idea of who I'm conversing with. It's why I participate in the first place. Again, what surprises me is the acceptance of what's going on with this situation. The willingness to give up our rights.
Sorry to bring up the obvious descent arguments. I'll go express my opinions at the wall in my lowly shack from now on.

Holy cow again!!! I go to reply and see two more.flipwils11 wrote:For once I agree with Dave.MelvinsArmy wrote:Condescending much? This so-called wisdom I'm sharing isn't my own. "I must have hit her pretty close to the mark to get her all fired up like that, huh kid?"
Who cares what my background is or if I'm a US citizen. What does that have to do with anything? fwiw, yes I am a citizen, my family goes back generations. So what? How would I make this country radically different? None of your business. I'm not running for office and I never will. I'm smart enough to know that I'm not smart enough to solve the problems we have. Too bad there weren't more people who understood their own short comings and stayed out of office and big business.
All I've done here is express my concern for our eroding rights. That is me waxing poetic, go back through the thread, it's all right there.
"bring it on big man" lol. Really?
I'm flexing in the mirror right now. When I suck in my beer belly my physique is awesome.
Again, you entered a non-rc car topic so your point is void. When the title of a thread is "Just in case you didn't know" and the first post is "i f-----g hate terrorists!!" the conversation probably isn't going to be about a vintage radio controlled car. It's why it's in the Off Topic/Chit Chat section.flipwils11 wrote:Oh wait, I'm going to bed now, darn. No, I have no ambition in life. Thanks for asking.
