How about the 17.5 motor?
both are a good, pragmatic solution... doesnt mean the rest is necessarily crap, but this is a good start

Okay Paul, tell me what to buy then, I won’t settle for good start!

I meant both HW, speedo and mill
now... do you really want a $100+ combo in your scorpion? xerun might not be needed... ezrun will be plenty enough. 17.5 might also be too much for the old lady, you could go even milder...
if you're into this ballpark of HP and you don't necessarily need sensored stuff, this should be ok

Paul, I’m appreciating that you are taking the time to help out.
I think the lady (don’t call her old, she will be so upset then

) could handle a modern 17.5 motor. Today she got a new 2x17 LRP V10 motor powered with S2 LiPo and she handles that without any problems. On the other hand I can’t tell if a 17.5 brushless is more powerful than a 2x17 brushed motor sins I have no experience at all with brushless.

You can still buy the Novak SS 17.5 and 13.5 off off bumps&jumps. It's about $85. It just has a different label.
Think it's worth the extra money over a d3.5?
Here's the link:

I found this cart some years back on other forum, so I wonder if there is any relevance in this cart. I recon it differs from brand to brand...
9.5T brushless = 17T brushed
10.5T brushless = 19T brushed
13.5T brushless = 23T brushed
15.5T brushless = 27T brushed

it's "about" right without boost on the ESC. with variable timing, this is obsolete. Still a decent rule of thum to start with, keeping in mind you can't compare them really... like comparing electric mills to nitro mills, or fuel to diesel for instance.

I understand, it’s just a roughly compeer between the two different technology’s.
But I think I will invest in an ESC with sensor from HW. And maybe a Corally Pro Red Series 17.5T

Edit: I saw that it is no longer part of the Novak product line, but Bumps and Jumps has it.
well i'll be....that's odd from what i understood novak commited to the dodc (dirtoval.com) series and the ss17.5 was the motor.
i searched novaks site and found it in the discontinued section. ????
i wonder what the difference is between the ss and the yellow end bell motor on the club system. they look identical.
doesn't matter anyway, any of the good motor makers 17.5's will do just fine.
edit:
they still make it, it's the dodc spec motor. it's not on their site but still being made and available through custom works and some other vendors.

Either way, it's $85. Anywhere to get it cheaper?
Edit: never mind, that's actually a pretty good price.

that's my point... why spend that much money on a non-competition motor? I've won races with 40+ pilots with $20 chinese mills... in 2wd, anything is almost too much power and efficiency isn't an issue...

For Vonats you need an ROAR approved 17.5 motor or?

roar shmoar, no one care's about roar anymore, not on a club/vintage level anyway, although i still prefer the "better" motors.
i've had a couple of the $20 chinese mills and was less then impressed, like i said earlier they tend to come up short in the kv dept compared to the major brands and i could definetly tell the difference.
there are just some things i won't skimp on. when the hobbywings first came out i "gambled" on them (the esc's) and found out that i wasn't skimping at all, the esc's were/are fantastic, but the motors left me wanting more.
chinese batteries and esc's are great, i've had zero issues, but from what i have experienced personally and seen at the track the radios and motors aren't up to par.
