Re: Kyosho Optima Mid - SWB/Carbon/Runner
Thanks a lot guys! Much appreciated
I just had to try this. There is something about pink wheels on vintage cars... these are Kyosho Sandmaster rear wheels (SM26KP).
I will try many thing on this car so you just have to adapt to it

I think it looks a little "Yo-kyo-ish". No, no I didn't say that. I've been thinking about putting some of the pink Tamiya DN01/kazak wheels on an ultima lately...

Thanks for your input!
"Yo-kyo-ish"... so that's what I got it from! You got it. Let's have them on for now. I also really want to use gold shocks in this runner and I have some ideas about placing the batteries so the work will continue...

Re: Kyosho Optima Mid - SWB/Carbon/Runner
The initial plan is to use OT-66 repros from Marwan as they are close to the mid originals and still available. Most people seem to use modern 2.2 wheels and tires on their mid runners but I want to keep the original size.
I have not double checked the size on the Sandmaster wheels but I think they are old school 1.9.

Great look so far. Love the white suspension with the carbon fiber. Can't wait to see what's next.

Re: Kyosho Optima Mid - SWB/Carbon/Runner
Smaller kind of update. The car has now got some gold shocks and tires. Don't we love those gold shocks?
It starts to look like a... car! Also mounted some fluorescent yellow nylon nuts from RPM. No turnbuckles yet so I put a tire under the chassis to elevate it a bit so I could take a "normal" car picture. Tires are OT-66 repros from Marwan.
Hope to start on the electronics soon but have to wait for the mailman.
Cheers

I'm really digging the pink 2.0" Kyosho rims on this Mid. A cool colour combo along with the white body and blue 'Turbo' decals.
Another ACE thread by you, thanks.

Woah! Check out that 2WD Optima Mid/Ultima. What a great idea for a mid mounted 2WD. Any more pics of this project floating around?

Here is a small update. Replaced the yellow nuts with white ones. Also mounted white rod ends (RPM), black turnbuckles (Axial) and matching ball studs (Associated). In the rear I still have black outer rod ends because of the different mounting. Maybe I could find white versions of those too?
The Alec & Lane-steering mechanism feels awesome!
Cheers
