for displaying cars I have been using these acrylic stands:
http://cgi.ebay.com/Acrylic-Jewerly-Riser-Set-4-LOT-2-x6-x3-3-16-Thick-/390123453840?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item5ad52b7d90
I got mine in a closeout lot for a bit cheaper, but this is the size I use.

I was in the Wallmart with my wife the other day and discovered these 8 ounce Ziplock disposable plastic bowls for less than $3 for a pack of 6. I brought home 4 packs of them, discarded the lids and shot them with Krylon Fusion semi-flat paint. They are really cheap, hold the cars off the tires and are unobtrusive on my shelves. Sorry about the bad pictures, it's still dark outside so no natural light.

for my trx fiero i use a block of wood.

the rest of my fleet are runners (even if they arent running atm) i have re-usable zip ties and i have screws in the walls to hang them from. works well enough if you ignore the tire marks on the wall

That is an amazing collection.

I usually use one of the round CD cases the blanks came in and wrap it with electric tape/paint it and apply whatever stickers you want to match.
You can add weight inside, to help stability and put foam on top to cushion it.

I use bent acrylic stands. I get them locally, but you can get them online pretty cheap too. They come in all different shapes and sizes.
Great for staggering cars too. You can fit 3 or 4 on a shelf that might normally only hold 2.

J-sou, that is exactly what I was trying to describe on page one! With it clear, doesn't take away from the actual RC car being displayed.

Redscampi, you are onto something too. Cheap and easily available! Anyone in this hobby should be able to shot some flat black on plastic.

Also something to consider. Someone mentioned PVC. Well I'm sure if you talked to local contractors or even a supply shop, you might be able to pick up scrap PVC pipe. Heck, I was still in that profession, I'd let you onto my jobsite to clean up my mess! I'm thinking 3-4"...you could cut it to different lengths for the stagger effect or just cut them equal lengths. Hit it up with some paint and your golden! Just a thought. PVC couplers get pricey. Much more so in the long run than actual pipe!

That's a great idea, j-sou, and doesn't look ghetto. The staggered thing gives me another idea. Where do you get those?

We used that word way back around 2003 in computer modding (which I was really into back in the day). Ghetto mods were done on-the-cheap with little thought given to the quality of the mods or the end-result. I'm sure the term also applies to some of the bad RC car hack-jobs we've seen on Craigslist and eBay.

I get mine locally from a guy that sells tons of different acrylic stuff at a swap meet (Long Beach Antique swap meet for those familiar with this area). He's got lots of different shapes and sizes, and prices are great. I go to that swap every couple months and typically pick up a couple more. Trying to get my display all dialed in here!
