I don't think that's quite what Lex had in mind when he said "offroad". Pretty cool rig though. Looks like a Dodge Ram from the front and a Corvette from the rear.

Mr Lex, you said a belt is in it's future. Are you saying they did the w/p and didn't replace the belt, tensioners, and rollers?
The plastic impeller has haunted the VW MK4 for years now. To me it should have been a recall, but I guess they lasted long enough that it just became a technical service bulletin.
I'd put that 1.8T at 200k plus in terms of longevitiy so long as it's had synthetic in it. Of course, I know nothing of the effects of Michigan weather and aluminum engine components.

Having run both as a Taxi, ignore the Kia, they look OK, but are not hardwearing at all, if you can find a Mitsubishi, I have run one over 100K with nothing more than service parts, and for similar sized diesels, it does 33% better fuel than the Kia

It's called Tata Motors because they build cars that only a boob would drive!

The element is also AWD, so its a bit more versatile than the FWD cubes like the scion, kia & nissan.

 I was also a service advisor for VW. I can't lie, I'm a fan. You either love them or hate them. Or is that you love to hate them??

I resemble that remark. When the VW is running good it is all so good, but when something goes bad, it tends to go really bad.
I'm out of warranty on my '06 and just waiting for something "fun" to happen.
