Surely we should be a 'shoulder to cry on' if someone on here has to resort to buying one at that price?!

Regarding the gearbox casing - the usual place where they break is at the front tabs... but I keep coming across them where the 4-40 tapped holes to the rear of the casing are stripped.. I think if the motorplate isn't quite folded right - it puts too much stress on the plastic when you tighten up the screws trying to compress the motorplate so it sits tight together between the T-plate & the G-Box.
Ah I see, I don't recall having that issue, but it was a long time ago :?

Agreed Dan, I don't think any of those plates actually fitted directly, there is always a small amount of pressure required to align the holes so the screws mount through. Then there's the fact that any impact at the rear will stress them also.

Probably explains why they used a different design for the XXX, i.e. an aluminium motor plate and separate plastic motor guard.

Back on the topic of my build, I need get some more pics posted as its changed a little bit since the last proper post. Kinwald tower, blue nuts, new wing, body all stickered up, and that lovely mk1 milled plate....just some Lunsford quick tune mounts to go...

Based on my current form - you'll have too! :(

In my defence I don't have a light box and so need a bright overcast day to get good photos, preferably when the kids are not running riot also

The motor plate in the last picture is just so shiny that I will have to use sunglasses to look at it. 8)

One word Ben....EPIC!! Loving the edition of the XX decals... are they the machine cut ones?

I've got a couple of Euro Dirtinators (the brown labeled ones) - both are used but in decent condition, the best one is earmarked for my new-build car. I did see one NIP for sale recently but as part of a complete CAT2000 race set-up - I couldn't justify the spend to buy it all just for the motor lol!

...... Oh, & I'm now the proud owner of an old style machined/shiney motorplate ;-)

Cheers Dan, yes they are, took me two years to find them, although they've lost most of their adhesive now :-(

I had forgotten about that style of motor - I might also consider one for this build so will keep an eye out - have you started your new build yet?

Awesome Dan, glad you got it, its a cool piece to have on your build - now you need a Jammin front brace to match it up front 8)

No - I haven't started building the new car yet..... but in my mind (and with the parts that I keep finding/buying) it's constantly evolving, trying to always keep it as true to my old car, but it seems with parts I would have brought if funds were less tight.

This does however mean that there are some parts that I have brought that I'm now not going to use, like the newer style machined motorplate, so along with these parts & the aquisition of a NIP graphite chassis - there might be another build on the cards!

Shame about the adhesive on your XX decals - I had a similar thing with a couple of sticker sheets that I scored for my TopCat build - was really chuffed to find them, even though they cost a reasonable sum, but when I came to use them they were just so hard to remove from the backing paper that in some places the paper couldn't be removed at all :-(
