Nice work on those home-made towers!
Did you hang on to the remains of that chassis with the broken nose? Every tiny piece of carbon that has a bent in it and could be used to add a kick-up to a home-build chassis is like a little treasure

well seeing i got 2 rear towers, 1 front tower and the tranny brace there wasnt much left. but all scraps end up in a small bucket on my bench. all the scraps are checked first when i need a small part before i cut into a fresh sheet of g10.

even though the rear tower and brace look slim that are still stiffer than the stock fiberglass pieces. i am thinking these graphite towers and braces will end up in the box of spares i am currently working on building up. for the final pieces for this car i will be using orange g10. the chassis is going to the powdercoater next week as long as everything goes right. nice fresh orange powdercoated chassis will defiantly get noticed even if all the pink parts dont lol. the orange g10 parts i will make will not be cut as slim as the graphite parts are. but seeing that this entire buggy will be pink an orange other than the tires and electronics it will look good out on the track no matter how she does in the race. and seeing my wife likes attention she will get a lot of it with this car.

i just finished cutting out some parts for my sons rc10l tonight. i will post pics in that thread later on after i get the rest of the parts cut. current i have finished 2 chassis', 3 nerf wings, 1 t-bar spacer. all out of blue g10.

the sales office will be closed from April 18-April 28, 2009 for vacation.

they may not be the cheapest but they were the first place i found that had the colors i wanted. my first order with them was a small one just buying a couple pieces from the scrap bin. this was just to see the difference in textures and colors. and it was also to see how good their turn around was. i am overly pleased with their service and wont bother looking other places just to save a buck.

the coarse and medium textures are not glossy but smooth enough to get the job done. you just wont get the pretty shine. the orange i have pictured is coarse texture. the blue i got was medium. i will most likely go with the glossy stuff when i make a bigger order though since it would be the best to see scribed lines to follow and lets not forget the bling factor lol.

What thickness are you using for those towers?

1/8 inch
0.125 inch

i may end up going with something a tad thicker for strength later but that would require additional work and trimming. the this has about the same give as the stock fiberglass towers. well at least it seems so to me. but testing flex by bending it with your hands isnt too scientific. i would say start with 1/8 inch for the towers. play around cutting and trimming it. if you decide you want thicker later it is a easy as placing an order and making the new parts.

mcmaster carr has a good selection of G10 as well, all kinds of colors and thicknesses.

well this update don't have pics but they will come in a couple weeks.

today i dropped the rc10 and rc10t parts car chassis's off at the powdercoat shop along with both nose plates and motor mounts. color of choice o both of them is orange. i left them a paint sample to match up to so hopefully they get them right. all 6 parts powdercoated for $40. i don't know what the going rate is but i feel that $20 for each chassis, nose, motor mount combo wasn't a bad price at all.

next update is i just ordered a viper body and rpm 2.65:1 tranny conversion. there are still a lot of parts needed to finish this thing up but its slowly getting there.

other news is the airtronics m11 fhss-2 transmitter and receiver i ordered march 3rd has now shipped. the proper body for my bolink outlaw sprint has been located and bought. and i have finished some more home made g10 parts for the rc10 and rc10l.

the two chassis are back from the powdercoater now. these things are so bright a color blind man would even notice them.

seeing that i will have so many extra parts left over from my wife's racer build i am planning to put together a backup car for those "just in case" moments. the extra buggy will mostly be used for practice laps. seeing that it will be made up of the not so great condition "leftovers" it wouldn't make a great racer.

lol ya.. i was playing around and decided to do something different. i think it weakened the tower a bit much. so i don't think i will do ant more like that. i'm not worried about the weight on these buggies at all. i figure the extra weight will help keep the buggy planted better so it should be a little easier to drive for my wife.

at this point i have cut enough spare shock towers to keep her supplied for a while. (at least i hope so). later on i will be making some custom towers to allow me to play around with the mounting locations. as of right now all the ones i have made are based off the stock towers.

Just make sure you got he weight in the right places: as low as possible and in the suspended, non rotating parts. And if possible well balanced. Otherwise that little bit extra weight might make things tuffer to drive
