That looks great!
I'd definitely be interested to see the chain guide when it's all done.. I hope you'll post here!silvertriple wrote: ↑Sun Jun 23, 2024 4:43 amI also have the intention to review the chain guide I designed for the first Fantom EP-4WD chassis to fit the EXT and flat lipo packs.
It's already in the pictures...sundevil67 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 22, 2024 10:14 amI'd definitely be interested to see the chain guide when it's all done.. Yeah, sorry - I noticed that soon after I posted this. I never ordered anything from Shapeways before. I'm probably not going to be building it for a while, but when I finally get to it I'll definitely be looking to buy one of these. Possibly for my original Fantom as well if I decide to actually run it. I still find it hard to believe that the original design worked so well - and even that the new one is so fast even with the chain routed the way it is. Nice job putting that together!silvertriple wrote: ↑Mon Jul 22, 2024 12:20 pmIt's already in the pictures...sundevil67 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 22, 2024 10:14 amI'd definitely be interested to see the chain guide when it's all done.. The files for the parts are on cults3D: https://cults3d.com/en/3d-model/game/fantom-ep-4wd-ext-accessories-for-chassissundevil67 wrote: ↑Sun Aug 04, 2024 2:51 pm Yeah, sorry - I noticed that soon after I posted this. Ah, thanks for clarifying ... I didn't realize there was a separate vendor required; never ordered a 3D print job before. I stupidly wired it so my battery leads are on the chain side, so I was happy to see there's a version that covers that.silvertriple wrote: ↑Sun Aug 04, 2024 4:17 pm The files for the parts are on cults3D: https://cults3d.com/en/3d-model/game/fantom-ep-4wd-ext-accessories-for-chassis
I did thought about Shapeways, but since it bankrupted, there is no point to put the parts there. And to be very honest I never liked Shapeways, as they were probably the most expensive printer service online...
You may download the files from cults3D, and use https://craftcloud3d.com/ to select a online printer service...
Thanks for taking the time to explain all of that! In my mind's eye I was thinking about a golden aluminum version to match the parts on the 60th... I have enough Fantom runners (and likely nowhere to drive them now that the last on-road track near me just closedsilvertriple wrote: ↑Mon Aug 05, 2024 3:50 am Well, yes, technically it is possible to 3D print in metal... But here I would advise here to prefer plastic :any metal (aluminium included) will add a lot of weight. Further, the finish of metal print is nowhere near from CNC machined parts. Last, I'm not sure adding metal near battery leads is a good idea...
Last comment, the way I did the parts, you may put the battery leads the side you want. On the original Fantom, I installed them on the chain side because the steering servo was on the other side. On the EXT version, I thought it was better to put the leads on the other side to avoid messing with the cable near the chain : A chain can act as a chain saw and cut the leads by rubbing against the cables, and with Lipo, that would mean fire risk. Leads are set on the left side for this reason.
I designed parts as well for the first re-release Fantom, and I intend to do the same for the Plazma (I have a Kyosho Plazma LM here, which I will need to take care at some point)... If ever I come to put my hands on other original models, I may do something about them. All about this is having the luck to put my hands on a car, and more often than not, it is about money, and that means limited to what I can allocate to my hobby activity. If you like what I do and are willing to contribute to my projects, you may contribute (my paypal is on my cults3D page).sundevil67 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 05, 2024 8:53 am Smart thinking to consider all of those possibilities; sounds like it'll make sense for me to get one for my OG Fantom as well. Have you designed any other parts for old school Kyosho 1/12 cars?
silvertriple wrote: ↑Thu Sep 12, 2024 12:06 pm My Fantom ran on Sunday. At some point I handed my remote to one of the guys of the club to take a quick video... There was another Fantom (non EXT) on the track at the same time...
