So I ordered the shapeways upside down gear cover, only to fond a b3 cover fits just fine, albeit with just one bolt. Looks factory now.

Re: Yellowdatsuns mid-motor conversion, on the cheap!
Took it out for it's first real outing, to see whether or not I want to continue with the prioject, or leave it as is.
This things is fast as @#$% and handles great! My only problem, if you could call it that, is that even being mid motor, it wheelies on command. So on my MT-4 transmitter I dialed back the throttle to 90%.
So I will indeed continue. I will be adding threaded shocks next, so I can more easily tune it. It handles way better than I thought it would for a hack project. It's not as good as my B5M, but it's real close to my B4.2 that was really dialed in.
Has a bunch of people ask me what it was, and thern had to go through the schpiel, "well, it's a early 90's RC10T, converted to buggy, then converted to mid motor".

Re: Yellowdatsuns mid-motor conversion, on the cheap!
So with all the talk about the new laydown gearboxes, I got to thinking.........Associated made one way back decades ago, in the RC10GT. Soooo, that's what I assembled, and will be using in this car. I have it built up already, and drilled/tapped a B4 motor plate to work. It has an Avid slipper currently, but I still have the stock B4 slipper if I want to go that route.
I did notice the GT has a larger diff gear, so it may take some trial and error to find the right spur and pinion combo. Right now it's something like 26/84 with a 48p. The B4 gear cover fits nicely.
My G10 black fiberglass sheet should be here today, and I'll be making a new chassis for the car. The current aluminum pan has a ton of holes, and looks like swiss cheese in the back tranny area. I'll be drilling only the holes I need to use, and keep the RC10T narrow front chassis plate.

This is just a trial assembly, but you get the idea.

If I remember correctly, the GT and the B4 have the same final drive (2.6), so you could gear it the same as a B4 and go from there.

Even with the noticably larger diff gear on the GT? I'm using a B4 top shaft in the tranny. Hmmm........

Instead of a new GF chassis, a buggy GT chassis conversion would work as well, except for the longer wheelbase I guess

Here's the chassis. Unlike some people on here, I don't have access to cnc machines, so this is entirely hand made.

Sweet! How is the stiffness in the central area, where you have your servo? I'm asking because it looks like some flexing in that area could make your car steer to the right, by "pushing" the servo link forward. Anyway, looks even better in G10!
