I think the wheelbase on that body will be longer. But it's doable. There's also a possibility you may have to alter the rear mounts slightly. Without having done it and can't say for sure how it will fit.

I used a b4/t4 motor plate and drilled/ tapped new holes in it along with dremeling some gold pan trans spacers for my electric conversion. I got the plate and v2 slipper and top shaft et cetera from the ebays and even got the gear cover to fit. Hooray safety! have not run the truck yet, got caught up building a lightweight gold pan car.

Anyone know if the 9580 B4/GT2 caster blocks will fit in the GT arms? maybe even with some light mods?

I picked up the SC10 hex drive steering blocks but they don't fit in the GT Caster blocks.

Todays progress. I started stripping it down for cleaning.

Some screws had an attidue problem and got booted off the team.


Now I've done it.. my truck fell apart.



I couldn't resist.. this looks fun even if the steering is limited.

To answer my own question.. Yes the B4/GT2 caster blocks will fit the GT arms with no slop.. you just have to drill the cross pin bore out to 1/8"

So my GT hex conversion consists of

9883 hex kit
9880 steering block
9881 axles
9580 - 25° caster block (you get an effective 30° caster angle because the GT kick up is 30° not 25° like the GT2)
9622 - king pins (unless you want to try drilling the caster and steering blocks out to 1/8")
9645 screws (sets the king pins in place)

It adds up to about $25 in parts and by some stroke of luck my LHS had every piece in stock.







The motor plate arrived.. It's a nice piece.. Just needs some longer 4-40 screws to mount it.







time to take the rest apart and clean it up.

Not much work over the weekend..

I did order some more parts.. Graphite front and rear shock strut towers(7654,7215), SC wheels, a bunch of stainless screws from boltdepot and a GT2 body..

Yeah I'm taking a chance with the GT2 body.. If all else fails I'll order a ST15 body and live with my mistakes mocking me form the pegboard.

Next step is deciding how I'll brace the tub where the old motor mounts are missing. Just laying up a full carbon pan is still on my idea list mostly because it's fun to play with carbon.

i had came up with the idea of a alum servo mount (b4)or rc10l shock mount and run a tie rod the the top of the tranty case but havent mocked it up yet

Good idea.. I was thinking along the same lines using the 7314 tube braces you see on the blue pan GT trucks.

Plug made..



I wanted a quick and easy way to finish the plug so I dug into some old Monokote I had in the closet.
Instant metallic purple shiny thing.



I'll wax and PVA it tomorrow then get to cutting cloth & mixing resin.

I'll do 1 layer 6k twill sides and base, 12k biaxial base only and another 6k all over.

I also need to make up a battery tray

Stainless screws arrive tomorrow and the carbon towers & front bulkhead on monday. (I hope)

Food saver.. it's not just for dinner any more.. Best $5 I ever spent at Goodwill.
The plug is all layed up with 60 grams of resin, 6k twill, 12k biaxial, 6k twill, peel ply and blotter.

I wish I had some Dynel as a bottom layer for abrasion resistance
I'll give it 24 hours to cure then see how it turned out.

so where are you getting the carbon from ? great idea for the vac food saver lol

i watch a guy in australia that builds alot of parts for cars from srcach with carbon .. he even mixed in big metal flake into the resin

I few years ago I knew a guy who worked for a composites shop that made parts for Boing.
He saved the bags of off cut dry carbon that was going to the trash.. He had hundreds of pounds of cloth.

He gave me a 14 pound box of carbon cloth to play with.

When I need something else I go to Illstreet composites, USC or Sollar.


Todays results after trimming. 85g and plenty stiff for the job.
