if you're gonna be using them in runners, i would use ones that are easily replacable should anything happen to the ones you have. tekin and novaks are pretty easy to find.

a ko cx-iii.......... not so much.

I don't know if they are too "new" for what you desire, but I'd say the M1c/Mxcfrom Novak. The 411 series from Tekin as well. The first NEW ESC I ever got was an M5, I later picked up a 2nd hand T4. To me the T4 was a little crude, without high frequency switching. So for me, I'd want to at least stay with the Hifreq models. BTW are the T1 and T1x HiFreq? Or did that not come until the M1c, Mxc and M5?

Some really great advice from the members who've posted here. Keep it coming guys.

I got to thinking about moisture and how it might effect sensitive electrical companants and after looking over all the units I have it would seem Novak was the only company making a real effort to seal out moisture with rubber seals and plugs everywhere. No wonder they keep on working :D

My first ESC was Futaba’s MC109 and for the past years I have tried to find one without success. Then I started to run Tekin and then it was LRP. And now its most Novak and some Tekin

You need to get yourself a Talking Electronics Xenon ESC. Available in both a 4-FET (540) configuration, or a 9-FET (medium Mod) config. Just about as 'back-in-the-day' as you can get..... link here: http://www.talkingelectronics.com/projects/Xenon/Xenon.html.

Go on mate, I dare you....

Have anyone done business with this Xenoen company?

Don´t take me wrong but this ESC is not a race type ESC, also far away from state of the art in 1988.
It is a project for someone who want´s fiddling with electronics as a hobby.
Of course this ESC should work but don´t expect working as a Tekin, Novak, GM or LRP.

If you really want one for the track, do yourself a favour and buy one of those above. I personally would go with a 411P or 411G, these were very good and if burning up it is not a great loss as available quite easy at Ebay.
Older ESC I would not want using as not made for the much higher voltage of todays batteries.

For a shelf car the first Tekin Mospower Controller ESC would be my personal choice http://classicrc.wordpress.com/esc-electronic-speed-control/tekin/tekin-mospower-controller/
I really like the look of this 1985 ESC.

Yup - either of these are great ESCs - I had a 411P Bitd & I swore by it. Tekin seemed to dissapear off the scene for a while, but they returned with the G10. I snapped up a G10 & used it for a few years in my Touring car, its still proving 100% reliable in my Clodbuster running twin 19t.

That said - i've never had any 1st hand experience with Novak stuff - untill I received two 410M2s with a load of Losi stuff from Holland. I ended up hooking one up in my Schumacher Axis drifter earlier this year & it works great!!!

Just picked up a Tekin TSC 420-G2..... mounted in an old Tamiya Manta Ray / Dirt Thrasher, of all things.... and powering a 27T rebuildable stock motor! ESC was clearly underused in that application... worked no problems, so might have to have a play with it. 20 cells.... could be good for creating a blur, followed by an explosion!

A combination that you shouldn't use:

Sanwa BL Power ESC + Sanwa 27 MHz AM RX: glitches like crazy due to interference, even with the proper resistors installed on the motor  . It seems Sanwa went very cheap on the ESC. I've had the same issue in a lesser amount on Futaba's cheap ESCs...
