And you better grab one quick becuase they are only increasing in price. A few years ago a vintage thorp would go for around $300+ Tamiya's ball diff used to only cost $35 now they are going for $100+

Hi!

I have several scorchers , 2 of them re-release and 3 or 4 vintage awaiting restoration, and as far as I know they are very similar except for some details , the important points are 1 and 2 , rest are cosmetic changes

1-stronger front arms (as Dennis appointed)
2-the rear gearbox of vintage does not allow to mount modern brushless motors (36mm diameter), unless you make room using your dremel, because motor housing is 0.8mm or 1mm smaller than it should be.(perhaps original mabuchi 540 was 35mm?)
I modified a vintage one to fit a 600w motor but alloy walls get thin doing this.
re-release has sligthly bigger housing for modern motors
3- the shocks are different, sligthly bigger and redesigned in re-re
4- original chassis is natural colour fiberglass, re-re comes in black
5- original body has wider rounder fenders, re-re narrower
6-original has a separate , front body post and servo saver,
re-re has a new front body post that make the work of axle of servo saver
7- original tail ligth lenses are clear with separate base, re-re are white one-piece (clear lens included, but need to modify the base)
8-rear view mirrors and door handles are different
9- original license plates have relief on numbers, re-re are decals
10- original decals were real world sponsors and re-re are similar design but with ficticious names

conclusion: If you plan to go brushless , or hot motor, buy re-release!! or at least his gearbox housing!!!

hi Dennis, this green body is not my job, I bougth it professionally painted from a spanish guy that paint several scorchers every week.

it looks painted with great care and attention to detail, finish has no imperfections, looks great!

If someones like it, I had just sent it to the buy/sell/trade forum

I'm going to put a box-art painted body in this chassis.(when I have time to paint it)


Smoke-dog sky blue scorcher also looks nice to me, it has that 60`s look, simply,clean and nice

I had an original one years ago. It was fun to drive around. It kinda handled like a 1/1 car would so in rc terms it handled like a brick. I don't rightly know what happened to it but I miss the little critter.

I have more than you can shake a stick at. There are several differences between the original and re-re but they are so minor that it really doesn't matter. Since the re-release the price of originals have come at down. So you could either splurge and buy a new re- re or buy a used one and use re-re parts to fix it. If you plan to run it, buy a couple of body sets now because you will need them later.

They don't drive well. You can't do crazy jumps with them either. They however are very fun to run in a scale manner.

Always enjoyed Showdog's builds on TC. The stuff he comes up with is too cool!

I want to upgrade my Sand Scorcher's steering to Super Champ specs. What all do I need? Does the SC servo saver bag have all the parts I need for the servo saver? Can I attach a plastic body mount to the top of the servo saver? What about links, what do I need to put beefier steering links on with those 2mm or 2.5mm ball ends on the steering knuckles?

That might be tough Scott. Generally you use the front body from the SC along with the servo saver. The body mount dimension is diiferent between SS and SC. You could drill out the top of the shouldered bolt that comes in the SC servo saver bag then put a body mount on top.
