The gears are 48p from Thorp and they pop up on eBay from time to time. The metal idlers were made out of a chewed up pair of outdrives...the usual Thorp idlers are delrin. The diff and thrust bearings are Jammin Jay Halsey parts...also found on eBay from time to time.

The inside of the case was cleaned up a bit to allow more clearance and I did my own version of the bearing elimination mod. You can't see them in the pic but it's also using outdrive bearings.

To be honest I still don't know if it's enough to handle a brushless motor without a slipper.


I thought about converting the pinion and spur to friction rollers instead of teeth, which I'd hope would allow for some slip, but I don't know how efficient it would be. I got the idea from a cousin of mine who has built Harleys that use friction rollers to drive the rear wheel instead of a chain.

I think that's just about the best a 6 gear can get.
Now if only that case was see-through.
