Novak Havoc
Novak Havoc
I'm going to buy a Novak Havoc Combo, but I'm debating between a 8.5, 10.5, and 13.5 turn motors. I want my car to be quick but mainly want to use it on a motocross track and run time and controllability is the most important aspects for me.
Any opinions???

Re: Novak Havoc
Lots of variables obviously, but from what you are saying, assuming it's a 2wd buggy, and by quick you mean lap times, I'd start with the 10.5 at most. As long as you have a decent setup, traction, and driving ability, it's not terribly overpowered, good run time. Takes quite a bit of talent to make a hotter motor go much quicker on most tracks, and then generally only a little.
Limited traction or driving experience, the 13.5 would be the ticket. Total rookie, or washed up & blind like me, 17.5 stocker.
Note if you plan on racing, check your local tracks. Some run a 10.5 superstock class, some go with the new ROAR 13.5 format. Gives ya another nice option in addition to full mod.
Either way, brushless likes a lot of gear.
Good luck with whatever you choose!

Re: Novak Havoc
13.5 will give you the most run time, but if you are on a literal MX track, will seem very slow--
if you go with a lower turn motor (faster) you can turn the trottle down via your transmitter,
and increase runtime & driveability
I can run my basher 10t on my 50 sec per lap practice track for 45min with a Putnam 4.5(turned down to 50%), SMC 5000mah pack, and geared at 92/17, and the track is very supercross style
with lots of heavy accel & decel

Re: Novak Havoc
If anyone even cares, I got my Novak Havoc 8.5 and Team Orion 3400 mah 25C Lipo and it is sweet. I was pulling wheelies and running for about 35-40 min per cycle.
If you get 2 lipo batteries you would literally never have to wait to run your car.
Thanks

Re: Novak Havoc
I have an RC10 setup with a Havoc 8.5 as well with an Orion 2400 lipo...I haven't ran it yet
but am looking forward to it. So at least I care djthomp, glade to here it's a good setup.

Re: Novak Havoc
I think you'll definately like it. If for some reason you don't let me know why.
By the way , Orion says you don't need to balance their Lipo packs. I wonder why their advice is different??
