Well, I call this a triumph project because it is what is left of my triumph from over the years. The front arms and the slipper clutch & ball diff... and that is it. The rest is pretty much hand-built. BITD a company made an after market kit for the ultima and it was called the voltima. I have never seen one of these in person, but use to think that they looked like a neat kit. Well, I tried to build my own voltima. I looked at pics in old mags for ideas and reference. If anyone has pics of the original voltima - please post them - that would be great. This car was designed and machined by myself. The transmission I've built over 10 years ago. I use to run it in my triumph. The chassis is 8th inch alum. The front bulk heads and swing arms were all machined from alum stock. I used double x front axles so my rim selection would be easy to find. The rear end uses yz10 drive shafts and hubs. I still have a lot to do on this, but it should be a really fun car to play with once I'm done.
I hope you like the pics. Also, there is a pic of my indoor track that I hope to have finished one day painted up with vintage posters on the wall!
thats quite interesting, do the rear tires stay strait? or do they curve in when the suspenion travels? like the old VW's did. I have to give you credit I really like it.
The rear suspension works just like a arms but they pull from the center of the car. you can adjust camber with the top link. I hope this gives me killer corner speed
Thank for the kind words guys ill keep giving updates as i finish this . yup that body would look good on this Mr ed but i have my eye on a academy gv2 buggy body slammed as low as i can get it with a white, purple, yellow, neon yellow, silver flame theme. I will get some video for the first run with this car i can't wait this is gonna be better than any thing i have made so far including my trailing arm tuber that i will post in the rc10 thread
What a track !!! I'm mightly impressed ! Your project looks also very interesting. How is your plan to instal receiver and controller ? I'm planing an akin, lean chassis and I'm still searching the perfect way to instal the electronics and reach the battery even so. Will you use a topdeck about the stiffness ? But how to change the battery in that case ?
I don't think i need a top deck the chassis is 3.5mm and it only flexes a bit it was real hard to bend the 25deg kick on the front. The electrics will be mounted on carbon plates that mount to the trailing arm posts.I get my body in 2 days so we will see how it fits
I wish everyone on here could run on this track i keep the dirt packed but loamy so old tires can hook up on it even holiday buggy tires. Just my sons and myself run on it no clubs or interest in vintage around here so you guys have an open invite if your by Kansas bring your cars
Unfortunatly Im in Australia but if Im ever in the US I would love to stop in for a run.I hope to have a holiday there sometime and race the vintage nats.Ill just have to try and explain to my wife why my suitcase is full of RC and Ive only got the one change of clothes.
Hey guys thought I would just post an update. I got some paint thrown on my GV2 body and my wing mounted. So I thought I would post a couple of pics. I'm getting closer to running this thing. It should be fun.
Hey guys this is the best I can do with info on the Voltima they ran small adds in rcca but this was a full page and I got most of my info from it. This add came from the Jan 1990 issue of rcca. I have never herd or seen anyone race one of these I just wonder why we didn't see more of them
