Project: Sand Blaster
I had 2 old Blackfoot and Monster Beetle chassis' laying around, neither operational, both with broken parts. So I broke them down to see what was what, salvaged the good stuff and ordered some new parts for a new project. My main interest has been scale trucks for the last couple years but I'm a big vintage fan and love the look of an old school hopped up buggy. So I start with a mixture of vintage and re-re parts.
I polished all the metal parts, old and new, with Mothers polish and they came out nice and shiny.
CRP shock towers for the front and some old school shocks I found on the Bay. I also painted the CRP bumper white. I'm going to throw in some period Futaba radio gear and Novak ESC.
The tires were lettered with a fine tipped paint pen. I love the look of white-lettered tires and paint them on every tire with letters that I can.
I'm trying to squeeze this build in along with 3 others I got going on but shouldn't take too long since I have most of the parts.

Re: Project: Sand Blaster
Trinity Midnight motor will probably get replaced with a Monster Horsepower.
I found a Frog body at my LHS for $7.99 so I had to grab it. I was going to use a Blitzer Beetle body but this will work at least for now. I wanted an old 80's look so I went with old school decals and a bright paint scheme. Need to find some body mounts and I'm undecided on a rear wing, might cut out the wing mounts and go without one. Kinda like this look.
Still need to add a few decals, add lights, and paint up the driver figure.

Man, that's super sweet and the Midnight motor looks awesome I'd keep it.

Thanks fellas.
I'm leaning towards no wing now. I just like the way it sits without it. Should have this one out for some action shots this weekend.

That looks great! I really like the white lettering on the tires, it really is a nice finishing touch.

Re: Project: Sand Blaster
Got around to adding a driver figure and spot lights. I made a small wing out of a piece of lexan but it's just temporary until I get the stock one. A buddy of mine gave me 2 LeMans 240st motors so I had to throw one in. There's not a lot of room under that Frog body especially for the huge ESC I plan on using. I might mount it behind the driver and cut out the rear window to let the heatsink poke out.

Re: Project: Sand Blaster
Cool Frog!! Can those black front shock mounts still be purchased somewhere? I have the shocks but no mounts. I saw crp made some red sets, but black looks better. Nice build!!

Re: Project: Sand Blaster
Forgot to mention: They only list the red ones on Ebay and at their website but they still carry the black ones. All you have to do is order the "red" ones and in the comments field let them know you want to purchase the "black" ones. I did this for both the Ebay and Paypal comments to ensure they saw it. I had contacted CRP looking for them and they told me to do this when ordering.transamman908 wrote:Cool Frog!! Can those black front shock mounts still be purchased somewhere?
