What technology in Old Reedy Motor
I am new to this forum but started my RC life with RC12E.
I am interested to know what is the welding technolgy that Reedy used in his can type Igarishi Reedy modified.
On the armature, some motors on the later days used ultrasonic welding, (maybe Yokomo type motori?). But in the 70's to 80's, Reedy had his own way to weld the wire on the commumter, as well as a dark grey compound on the copper spring arm with the carbon brush. ie strengthening the joint between copper and carbon brushes. (these technique was also seem in Delta's canned type 86G, 86L motors) What is it??

Yeah,
I revisited my Time tunnel last night and digged out more vintage motors and parts.
I am asking the moderator to help to to post the pic of my question.
Most of them can be rebuilt but the oxidized brush metal cannot.
For the how to whiter issue, have you noticed the white 12E or RC10 original servo saver turns glossy white, insteal of yellowish, after year. Has it become brittle? How to restore this item to its original look?

Mmmmm, modified Igarashi motors...
I'm gonna guess the shunts on the Delta are silver soldered, not sure what Reedy used, but maybe similar. That arm looks like about a 30 turn...

possibly a solder with a higher melting point im sure it would exist for certain aplications.

That is a special type of solder used in brushed motor building (in our industry anyways). I has some interesting characteristics. I can't remember (as I haven't built motors for a while) what the trade name is, but it is rare because on its first heat cycle it can be melted with a standard soldering iron at around 450 deg. F. On its second heat cycle it needs a temp of between 900 and a 1000 deg. F. It is also VERY expensive, last I heard it was upward of $300 a pound! -Jeff

Interesting to know this kind of stuff. I always wondered about that solder because a good friend of mine when I was younger talked about it being used. Of course I can't hardly remember stuff from a few months ago these days
so all of what was told to me has been all but forgotten about this solder
.
