True. You can also watch ebay for motor lots. I've seen 4-6 modified motors going for $20 or so
shipped. Used of course, but it's kinda fun to see what you get. I've had pretty good luck if you're patient.

or the smell...

i got a bunch of novak brushless stuff (the old ss5800, couple gtbs with a 17.5 and 6.5) and one speed passion gtb with the 17.5 spec motor, which i like alot, but i still want to try a mamba max 5700 on 3s lipo someday...

the hardcase lipos with the single plug balancing ports are what i would start with if i was just getting lipo batteries. one of the things thats kinda confusing about them at first is all the different styles of balancing plugs and getting a charger and balancer that matches up.

The mamba Max 5700 on 3s Lipo is sick! It is serious overkill, but if you set punch control at 100% it can be a lot of fun. I've tried it in about every application as far as 1/10th scale and the brushless GT is by far the most suitable. You can be runnin' 40-45 and still pull a wheelie on demand. I will never give up my brushed motors though. I just keep adding. In fact, I think that will be my focus for a while...building my collection. 8)
