The differential gear [inside] is what I need. It has 52 teeth, & carries 12 diff balls. In the manual it's listed as key#55. Item# A3024, which I now see is a gear set bag. Thanks again.

Oh boy, Now I,m confused.I spoke with a guy named Bill, at Losi a couple year s ago about these parts, & he sent me 3 of those A-3006's, & their not the right ones. Their too thin & a smaller dia. [48teeth] He told me that part way through the production of that truck, they changed the gearbox, and the new one had a gray case. Might these be the gears for that one? .......... Help

This is the gear for the stock 6 gear transmission its the only 2 they made. the LXT used the six gear or the XX retrofit, the Retro fit takes the taller wide gear. does you diff have the outdrives on it or a gear on each side? 3 gears or 6?

Retrofit:
3 gears
diff on the bottom
With outdrives on it

Stock
6 gears
Diff in middle
w/ gears on it in the middle

3 varieties of the diff gear are still available from horizon:

A-3074 for 2.19 retro-fit XX
http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products/Default.aspx?ProdID=LOSA3074

a-3076 for LXT/truck 2.61 XX retrofit
http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products/Default.aspx?ProdID=LOSA3076

a-3006
original "LRM" diff gear
http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products/Default.aspx?ProdID=LOSA3006

The 3021 is a replacement for the ball bearing upgrade kit. this kit used bearings that are thinner than standard bearings due to the lack of space in the diff. Without the special bearings, the gear cannot be used.

Most of the parts to rebuild the xx retrofit transmissions are still available:
http://search.horizonhobby.com/index.jsp?sid=11EAD0206EE6&Ntt=losa30*&N=0&vno=72

almost forgot, the manual for the XX trans can be found here:
http://www.vintagelosi.com/Manuals_files/RetrofitXX.pdf

the rest of the manuals are here:

I have the 6 gear tranny. It does'nt look at all like the retro fit unit. however, the center diff gear certainly looks like the one listed for the 2.61 set up. I think i'll just try to see if one works. Thank you all for your help.

There's one last option that's not listed and that is the mip 2.61 conversion for the 6 gear transmission. The conversion came with a larger center diff gear and a smaller gear for the top shaft.

The inside of stock gearbox had to be modified (at the bottom and the side) to clear the larger gear.

Just a quick note about part 3021 (ball bearing differential), this requires 2 thin bearings. The diff gear itself was only a couple of bucks, but the original conversion which included the 2 bearings was $24.95.

2 of the regular bearings or a conbination of a thin/thick will not work. The diff will just spin free without any fricition from the diff balls. Things that you learn when you're in a hurry and trying to finish tha car before a qulaifier.

That option crossed my mind at one point, & upon furture inspection, I see some clearances opened up on the inside of the case! So now, I need either the MIP gear, or the original top shaft. Highway, you da man! Thanks. ....now,back to the hunt...................

The mip change box comes with a thin plastic spacer to be used with the standard bearing. this will allow you to use any ball bearing style diff gear.
here are a couple pictures of the change box setup, I happen to have one sitting in my parts bin waiting for a home.
Note that #1 says "ball slots do not have stops to keep balls from falling through" I found that out myself before reading the instructions  Luckily I was able to locate all 12 balls to get this back together after the photo.

I opened my nip change kit to scan the instructions. This has the replacement parts list at the bottom.

Here's something I just noticed on my truck. The front bulkhead is white, with the LOSI logo molded in. I've noticed that the trucks I'm seeing here have a black bulkhead with what appears to be a JRX2 molded in. Which one would be considered correct? 8)
