fordtransman wrote:My Project is near completion, My RC12L Graphite Kit, ( I bought it unbuilt, unsealed ) It is dated to May of 87 per the catalog publishing date. This is an early kit, with the 2 bolt front suspension, before the 3-post 10L arms were retrofitted into the 12L later kits. This is well documented in RCCA in the "top 10 cars" for 1990 article. As Correct for 1988, I am using Novak radio equipment, including their T1, NES1A servo, and NER2S Receiver. The Reedy Ultra Blue Dot (1/12 torque) is NEW, and the currently mounted SC1300s respond/charge well for testing. I added a NIP Associated front bumper to balance the car out for display. The kit's original wheels/tires were blackened from the tire glue. I left them in the brown box and used NIP Associated wheels front and rear, with NIP AJ's Goodyear tires with Kyosho specs.

This car has zero surface run time. The speed control, receiver, wiring and motor all test out PERFECT. This car is IN perfect condition, except the Novak servo does not work. ( I am looking for a working Novak servo to finish it off for vintage races ) I have it displayed with a clear, trimmed Andy's TOJ Body. Many Thanks to William Cline Hobbies, Sheldon Hobbies, and along with many "old school" racers that I have come in contact with by way of ebay and the internet. Other then the Novak servo, my final project will be to wire up in saddle form the NIB KR1700 SCEs recently acquired from Jixer Jay. Tell me what you think so far!! In the future, I will be restoring my brothers RC10 to the level of HIS upgrades when he stopped driving it in 90.

Gregg, that car turned out awesome! Very cool to see the cells and electronics are period correct too. It was a long time in the making. Very nice work!

that's an awesome build. i noticed you put the ajs foams on. the pictures on the rc12l box look like they had the standard foams with goodyear decals on them. or were they?

The box art is the standard type tire foams with Goodyear decals. As the original tires from the kit are not cracked, I had considered putting decals on them. However, the overall effect of the tire glue permeating the white plastic did not go well with the overall effect of the car, so I decided to get NIP associated wheels fronts from Sheldon's Hobbies and the rears from a seller on ebay, then I used a set of the Aj's from Mr. Cline to get the Goodyear effect. I did not glue them on, which maintains both the tires and the wheels for future consideration.

Per Mr. Cline and the instructions on the back of the packages, the AJ's tires are correct replacement units for mulitple Kyosho Models, such as the Phantom, etc.

One of the photos I posted show the comparison of the kit wheels to the replacement wheels, and I think everyone will agree I made a good call. I left the original wheels in the box to main their integrity.

Interesting that this post has started.....

Since I just acquired a NIB 12LS and a NIB but Built 12LW. Slightly newer representations but great representations of the lineage.

LMAO! Wow the moon boots and unicorn T shirt make the costume! All you need left are a He-man action figure with string and some chapstick.

Updated photos of the car with the Box Art Corvette GTP. I have removed, and sold the bumper to another forum member since the photos were taken.

Absolute stunner. Doesn't get any better Gregg you've got the quintessential RC12L and AE should come knocking on your door begging to display your car in their showcase. IMHO
