Mr. ED's ULTIMA'S : Proj. 003

Post by Mr. ED »

It was on a business trip in the US a few years back, I saw these blue RPM arms for the RC10GT on the rack.

 Time to take the stadium truck Proj. 001 to a new level!
I had another Turbo Ultima chassis hanging around and since I wasn't racing anymore I decided to go for a no-rules Truck conversion this time.

Here's the result:
9.6V along the backbone,
high and dry suspension setup with Losi shocks
The front suspension carrier was split to receive the multiplex servo, thus freeing the space for 2 more cells.
ESC is a Novak 610 that survived my racing days, mounted on a topplate with lexan hinge.
The front is strudded with traxxas t-maxx links and the wheels are pointed by asso turnbuckles.
Wheels are tamiya on monsterbeetle axles in the front. (Bit wider than the CRP units of Proj. 001.)
Tires are german: from Conrad.
An original stock Kyosho moter works plenty well with 9.6V

Hope you like it :?:

It's an open-ended project, so all suggestions to take it further are wellcome...

Hehe, thanks for the compliment. The only rice burner is my wife though: I'm an expat ;)

Man, that truck looks tough! The multiplex servo or whatever looks really good as well. Heck I would buy one if I saw it in a hobby shop window, nice work. You guys are so darn creative! Does the esc or the motor glow with that many cells?

It look stougher than it really is, so I ran it only with a stock motor.
It went plenty fast for my driving capacity so I stayed on open space as not too hit anything with te giant tires. High spped, big weight= big momentum: scary stuff for one off's.
Thanks for the compliment!

I like the overall look, but true about keeping away from trees with that servo hanging out in front :D

biggest risk is hitting something with one of the front wheels at high speed, that will snap the hingepin right out of the bulkhead or the c-carrier of the arm.
the servo is behind a impact absorbing bumper and inside an frp frame.

This is the original racer version: with 6 cells inboard servo and stadium tires. I raced this for many years in my old club:

The body was from "Andy's" and I think the model is Chevy Silverado.
No longer on the market.
