Re: *** The official VINTAGE OFFROAD NATIONALS thread ***
I would say that Hartford would be your best bet at 35 miles or so away, but I'm not sure on prices to get there & rental car prices at that airport. (Southwest does Phoenix to Hartford for mid 300s.)
JFK would be a 2 hour drive, but the price differential (flight & car) may make up the difference if you don't mind driving (1:1 cars that is).
Good luck!

Bradley is the closest (hartford) but any of the NYC airports are about 1.5 hrs away. You can also try Westchester (white plains) airport

Yeah, just ran that Reedy race.
Could never figure out why they named the race after him?

Are transponders the same as they were back in the early 90's? That is, should I drill a 3/16" or so hole in my body and bring along an extra body clip to secure it? How are they mounted now?Erich Reichert wrote:They do have transponders but also can accept personals for those who have them.

Same deal - personals are the only things that are differentMelvinsArmy wrote:Are transponders the same as they were back in the early 90's? That is, should I drill a 3/16" or so hole in my body and bring along an extra body clip to secure it? How are they mounted now?

The biggest thing about the new transponder is a Yellow #5 IS NOT THE SAME as a Red #5 - that's assuming they have 2 sets of transponders...
The new system reads all 9 digits of the transponders ID

Thanks Kaybo. Do people still mount them to the underside of the body? If so, am I right on the hole size, 3/16"?

most of the time yes...sometimes people get "fancy" and make up a lexan holder that's attached to the chassis - but mostly I've seen them attached to the body itself...MelvinsArmy wrote:Thanks Kaybo. Do people still mount them to the underside of the body? If so, am I right on the hole size, 3/16"?
3/16's sounds right - but i haven't run a "house" transponder in YEARS (been only personal in that time)...and I've always "winged" the hole - ie, grabbed a transponder and a reamer and made a hole until the transponder fit
