.....potato guns/canons. Will not elaborate.
Oxygen and Acetylene as fuel. Hands down.

Ether, hair spray, mapp gas, propane.....none of them had the level of *CRACK* upon ignition that Ox/acetylene does.

It started as sweet corn cobs over the freeway.

One day we figured out a Mystic Grease Gun tube fit the muzzle diameter really well.

Times were different back then.

impact-burst grease gun tubes are messy.

PVC pipe is brittle.

I have nothing left to comment on here.

I have to vote for hair spray. It just seems like such an appropriate use of beauty products.

I have a 4 barrel, magneto ignition potato gun that's been sitting unfinished for 26 years or so. Really, that coincides with when I no longer had access to a suitable firing range. Back in the day, I purchased a Trinity X-Star motor to spin the magneto. Lately I've been feeling like I need to finish it. Testing it will be the real problem though. ☹️ Back in my day, people didn't overreact to ballistic potatoes that sound like artillery. 🤣

Reds are the best blasting spuds. They tend to have more liquid content that seals the front of the combustion chamber better and slides in/out the barrel better than the other taters. But I'm not refusing the other tater ammo if they're on sale.

I believe so. Based out of Chicago and available on WGN if you had cable.
It was a local program. Ken, I'm surprised you got in Evansville. But yeah, I dreamed to be on the show and watched it before school. Loved that creepy ass clown.

I remember Bozo being on before school....dreamed of going on there and being one of the little kids that got a $50 bill. 8)

Can't remember why they got $50, but that was the memorable part of the show for me. They didn't hand out $50's on other shows!

We had cable pretty early, which is surprising because it seems like we were the last ones I knew to get a microwave, VCR, or cordless phone. We had 13 channels that came thru a box with a dial numbered 0-12 for some reason. No remote. WGN and TBS were included, so we got all kinds of local programming from Chicago (WGN) and Atlanta (TBS). I loved it because I could watch classic Scooby Doo every day after school.

Yeah, I remember the $50 bill thing too now that you mention it. I can't remember why they won them. Maybe that was the last bucket, and the bike was the bucket before, or maybe they got both for the last bucket? It may have been another segment entirely. I don't think I was able to watch it very long before it was time to go to school and don't remember anything else that happened on the show really.

For my youth group at church, we would collect donations by going door to door to sell Krispy Kreme glazed doughnuts in a dozen box ................. for $2!!!! :D This would have been early to mid '80s I guess.

I then remember my first apartment in Va Beach, Va, in 1992, and we lived across the street from a doughnut shop, and their typical doughnuts were $.50/piece, or 3 for a $1.

I am reminded of this when I just got a KK promo on FB advertising getting a dozen glazed for $12!

I was kinda shocked by this this, but then remembered the last time I bought KK doughnuts for a meeting was $34 for two dozen. Even in today's stupid money, a doughnut should be less than a dollar!!!

So good!!

Before the cable, which my family got pretty quick, we had NBC (12), ABC (8), CBS (6), and PBS (UHF 23) for the most part. When Fox (35) popped up, it was like a whole new world arrived!!

Indeed, we actually tested many different brands of hairspray and Aquanet, while the cheapest, had the most firepower. We learned very quickly that pvc cement alone was not trustworthy to hold them together. All joints were also nut and bolted, and the combustion chamber wrapped in duct tape. One exploded while a friend was holding it once, and somehow miraculously he was completely uninjured.

I think we got 4, PBS, NBC, CBS, and ABC. Then we started getting UHF or VHF frequencies, I don't remember which, that added a couple more (late 70's).

Before we got one of these we had to step out on the porch and twist the pole by hand.
