It will be a lot like the old rtr engines they came with. Hopefully other companies step up and give us more options. Traxxas engine would the more powerful if you want speed.

Parts, hard to say. For the time being you have tons of options with FanRC and AE both making them.
Gotcha. Are these engines pretty reliable as far as being able to stay running and not shutting off if tuned ok? From I remember in the 90s the cheaper engines could be really frustrating. It was worth paying up for the nicer engines. I had a RC10GT with a Dynamite PD engine that was really nice and never shut off even once unless I wanted it to. That was a really nice and reliable truck.

Yeah the company has a good reputation but ultimately it's going to be what AE specs out. Probably won't have the power of your old PD, those were pretty hot. Might look at the Traxxas engine if you want the power

I'd be curious if the rere GT trans case fits OG trans parts without shimming or tooling.

I'm sure someone will test this. I didn't buy the rere GT.

Good thread.

Would there be any reason you couldn't rotate the muffler so the exhaust outlet is pointed more towards the ground so you didn't have to make a hole in the body for the side exit?

If rotated down, would it be more likely to contact the ground after a hard landing?

Yeah exactly, they would pack with dirt when you land hard stalling the engine. Plus it's messy to the underside of the chassis attracting dirt. Out the side is the least messy

Anybody have one together and running yet? I didn't get a rere gt, but I have a clean blue plate ft gt from when they came out w/ a novarossi .12 in it. Everytime I think about running it now, I'd pull it down from the shelf, compress the shocks, spin the tires, put it back on the shelf, charge up a lipo and tell myself, "ahh, maybe next time"

Thoughts on the SH .12 Pro engine for $127? Specs at 1.47hp and 40,000 rpm.

Thanks, limestang

SG crank will be difficult, I *think* you can cut the crank and make them work, but its been along time and I could be wrong. Also the rear exhaust will make header choice difficult.

I went with a USA made K&B engine from Mecoa, but had to order the machined cylinder head as mine came with the older cast head. This was a drop in, even with the pull start. The header is the only concern.

Is the engine in your photo the .18 cast head? I'm seeing the bar stock head and the one that looks like yours on the MECOA website. I've never run a nitro car, but I would like to build up one of these GT kits and get it running.

The AE engines aren't due until late June, so it'd be nice to have something to run in the meantime. I see a user a page or two back also runs a pull-start engine but mentioned that another user-supplied special mounts. You mentioned your K&B was a drop-in but that the header may be a concern. Did you do anything special to get everything working?

Does the kit come with a pinion for the output shaft? Photos of the AE engine appear to show the pinion included, so I want to ensure I have what I need if opting for a different engine.

Thanks!
