Abandoned JRX2

Post by sixdub »

I figured a click bait Youtube style thread title wouldn't suck ... buuuut I'm sure i figured wrong.

While searching for some JRXT parts in the basement, I was reminded that I had a Ebay score JRX2 abandoned on a dark shelf. After blowing off the cobwebs, the minty-ness was revealed, as well as some strange decisions of the previous owner(s). Why not a build thread?

Barely a mark on it.

Nice blank motor plate!

What the ?! Why the grinding? Note the missing top shaft, too.

1/2 ball bearing steering...

Rusty shock shaft hinge pin.... nice

All torn apart.

Motor plate looks like it never had a motor installed. Maybe someone was thinking about JRX Pro type inboard rear ball studs, but the bulkhead is an early type without the inboard holes. Head scratcher.

A third hole drilled in the front tower? I don't recall if some kits had 3 hole front towers. A NIP will be used instead.

Rear tower is an A&L that I'll use on some other build. NIP or clean used tower will be used.

That is a super clean JRX2. I would love to find one of those in my basement. It looks like you are well on the way to having a pristine vintage build. I look forward to seeing your progress.

Definitely some odd choices someone made while building it. Probably a long list story behind it all. The chassis is close to perfect on the bottom, so perhaps it was run very little.

The gearbox only had the outdrive gears inside. With all the mismatched parts, I'm guessing the Ebay seller threw things together to make it appear complete in the listing.

Anyway - time to assemble, starting with a diff pulled from my stash.

Let's kick things up a notch. This painted body is a recent ebay find. No idea who the artist is.

Wish I could take credit for the paintwork. I am more of a rattlecan kind of artist.

The color combo did make wheel decisions a bit tough.

Can't go wrong with Tecnacraft wheels...but they're not very racy. The early orange look good IMO

I'd go with the red 5 spoke. The really go well with that body.

nice. the early orange does look good, and I bet the white spokes would also look great. that body paint work reminds me of the losi painted bodies back in the day.

Great looking body. Both red and orange wheels look great with the paint.

Really nice build - basically looks like a new car & reminds me very much of my 'new build' JRX2 from a good few years back 8)

Love the bodyshell, very period & typical 'vintage Losi' - I agree, the red wheels look like they work the best with the colour scheme.

I agree on the wild red wheels. 8)

The orange wheels made it too monochrome.

Tires were also a tough choice....

20250217_094943.jpg

And wing.

End result after consulting a beer. Vari spike rear tires and clear wing for now.
