The next rere... a GT?!!

As someone who has never gone anywhere near nitro-RC, this kit has tempted me in to that world, so I have ordered the kit & engine. But do I need anything else apart from RC equipment & fuel? Does stuff like engine starter & exhaust come with the kit?

The tuned pipe and header come in the kit, but you will still need a starter- many ways to go there. A glow plug igniter, fuel bottle, some extra glow plugs (if you have them, you wont likely need them- if you dont have a spare you will definitely need one lol) and a glow plug wrench, and some after run oil. You can use Marvel Mystery oil but there are also premade oils for this. The fuel gets pretty nasty when it sits, the after run oil prevents it from gumming things up. Also depending on the air filter you may need some prefilter oil. The old GT's came with a paper filter so no ill was used, but not sure if the truck will come with one or not this time around. The engine will also often come with one, and it just depends on the manufacturer what type you will get.

its a good idea after every time you take it out, break it down enough to really get it good and clean or all that greasy grimy nitro gunk will build up and never go away. if you dont keep it clean, that crap will harden to an epic level and be pert near impossible to get off.

i also found that the big d-cell style ignitors were way better than the smaller ones that took a c-sized battery.

and get a good and torquey throttle/brake servo. the stock brake design aint the best and you want something to really clamp down on that brake disc.

Thanks. To be honest, as someone who has been into RC for 40 years, all I have ever known is electric so these terms that you are using mean nothing to me. So I guess I’m going to need a crash course in nitro, lol. The retro element of this kit is what has piqued my interest. And from the photos it’s such a great looking chassis with the all-new gold pan and engine parts bolted to it.

So I guess I’m going to need a crash course in nitro, lol. The retro element of this kit is what has piqued my interest. The first lesson to learn about Nitro is that you can't run a gas engine wide open forever like you can with electric. Especially if you're running it on the lean side. You'll throw a rod. I learned that the hard way on my second run with my GT.

To be honest I’m not even sure that I will run it. I mainly build shelf queens but I definitely will build this kit so that it is fully operational.

I’m in the UK and apparently we are getting virtually no kits whatsoever, and the AE-supplied engines will only be offered to uk store customers that have pre-ordered and paid for the kits, so I could see this one becoming a collectors item in the UK at least ….so I’d probably not want to run it for that reason too, as well as not wanting to get that lovely chassis dirty and scratched, lol.

Always always always make sure the engine sits with the piston at the bottom of the stroke. Especially if its going to sit for long periods of time. Its very easy to do this. Take out the glow plug and look inside the cylinder then turn the flywheel until the piston is at the bottom of the stroke.

I officially have aluminum brake adapters being produced, well I'm in line at least. Should have them in a couple weeks. They will be $20 each shipped. I'll have them on the website soon.

Thinking seriously about ordering this. Any thoughts on whether or not the Associated engine they are selling for it is decent? Does it resemble anything out on the market that anyone here has experience with? Also will I be able to find replacement parts for this? I have been out of the game for a long time and just getting back into it so I don't know all this stuff. Thanks!

The engine is made by the company that makes a lot of OEM kit engines. It's not a hot rod but should work well for messing around. It will be a lot like the old rtr engines they came with. Hopefully other companies step up and give us more options. Traxxas engine would the more powerful if you want speed.

Parts, hard to say. For the time being you have tons of options with FanRC and AE both making them.
