I don't think there's any money being made here, just trying to bring in enough money to try and cover site operation expenses (leased server space, software fees, domain licensing, etc) and then a bunch of volunteer support because they love RC stuff too.

I don't think there's any money being made here, just trying to bring in enough money to try and cover site operation expenses (leased server space, software fees, domain licensing, etc) and then a bunch of volunteer support because they love RC stuff too.

Most sites rely on volunteer moderators. I was a moderator on Clodtalk from the day Bill took it over from it's originator to it's close last year, or so. Never paid, though Bill did send me a couple Clodtalk tshirts over the years. Currently I'm a moderator on a construction forum and again, volunteer basis, though the owner does kick us a $100 amazon gift card every year around Christmas for helping him out, so I guess I do get paid over there. Let's see, thousands of hours spent on the site over the year for $100 . . . um, yeah, not giving up the day job just yet. Suffice it to say, definitely there to help and the camaraderie of the regulars.

Interesting to know the history finally. So UltraRC links to right here, pretty cool. I bet the name does pigeonhole a bit. How does this size of this place compare to Tamiyaclub.com? Just curious as I have no clue how all this works, so someone owns this domain and then presumably he makes money from ad revenue like everything else? TamiyaClub gets a bit more traffic due to appealing to a broad general audience. We cater to an esoteric niche of the hobby but wouldn't want it any other way. Yeah, any money that's made between donations, raffles, and ad-revenue goes back into things in some fashion. Even so, what we make still doesn't cover everything throughout the year in which I have to occasionally pay the difference for out-of-pocket. I didn't include the rest of the story after posting how this place began as I did it right before going to bed but I'll add some more detail to answer your questions. I currently own everything, and run the entire technical side, but the user end is a team effort obviously. In 2017 Bill Krueger who I believe hadn't been in the hobby for quite some time wanted out of both ClodTalk and RC10Talk. This is glossing over the nitty-gritty but I ended up buying them from him to continue things on as I was the only person still around from the beginning who had the expertise to handle it all.

That segues into some side-history... I've been running various forums without a break now since at least 2002 with the creation of my own R/C monster truck one called Monster Madness. It was located at monstermadness.net which I've since re-registered for nostalgia's sake and redirected it here. Anyway, at the time the two biggest R/C monster truck forums were ClodTalk and RCMT which were heavily PG. A lot of members were looking for an alternate place to converse in a more rated R environment. I created Monster Madness to fill that desire which did alright for itself for about 5 years before closing.

Well thanks for keeping this place going! Forums have always been a nicer place to be for community and true exchange of information. FB always seems to be hey look at my picture followed by some comment I don't want to hear not related to why you are there. So I left that and may be the last hold out, that will show 'em

Thanks for the interesting history lesson. Perhaps a summer waffle along with the annual winter one could help keep the lights on around here. It was mentioned recently. They're fun and I think a lot of us would look forward to it.

I like that idea but it's up to scr8p as he's the one who puts them all on. I know he has some cool ideas up his sleeve though.
