Kyosho Inferno MP-5

In 1995 Kyosho unveiled their latest 1/8 nitro powered 4wd Inferno off-road racing buggy, the MP-5. Starting out as the Burns MP-1 in 1987 and moving to the Inferno name with the MP-3 in 1991 the latest car, now in its fifth generation, represented an evolutionary design that outside of appearance resulted in a car that bore little in common with its predecessors. An all-new gold anodized Duraluminum chassis plate would be the first in 1/8 racing to feature a front kickup, at 8 degrees, the 4-wheel independent suspension would see its camber adjustable double a-arm configuration extended by 3/8 of an inch at each corner, and the twin bellcrank steering with built-in spring-loaded servo saver was revamped to include revised geometry, a bushing mounted aluminum drag link and adjustable tie rods leading to aluminum knuckles with 6 degrees of kingpin inclination. A new aluminum top plate connected the steering posts to the front bulkhead, behind which sat a more centrally located engine, flip top fuel tank and aluminum radio tray with an enclosed receiver box. Front and rear shocks towers were also aluminum and supported a set of oil-filed blue anodized aluminum shocks with adjustable spring collars. The shaft driven 4wd system benefited from upgrades as well, with smaller drive gears in the center, front and rear differentials providing a lower center of gravity while the front and rear sealed gearbox housings that doubled as suspension bulkheads were now interchangeable fore and aft with universal shafts and dogbones outputting from each respective end. Shallower offset 3-1/8 white nylon 5 spoke wheels allowed the MP-5 to maintain the same width as prior iterations and were wrapped in W-5648H hard-compound X-pattern tires all around that could be brought to a halt by the dual disk braking system when needed. A new clear lexan body, molded wing and wing mounts, mini bumper, rear sway bar, and full bearings completed the unassembled kit which was sold less .21 engine, manifold, pipe and radio:
