Have a bunch of those Pro-line slotted screws now.

Got this M2 kit from Amazon, used the 2mm x 8mm screws and M2 nuts, they work great.

Yokomo 834b wing buttons arrived today, after being lost for a couple of days in the mail.
Image

Cut off 1" of a Boki wing wire, jammed it to the bottom of the tubes, and then bent it.
Image

Do I have the wing back too far?
Image

Can't tell from this angle.

Looks good but the wing does need to come forward and it looks to flat.

I agree, looks fantastic but yes the wing does need to be moved forward. The leading edge of the wing is much closer to the bends in the wire.
Who do you race for ?
Me……. I race for me.
That’s impossible, I was told you need a sponsor to race.
Hey Cru ! Go balls out 8)

Thanks guys! I'll definitely get that wing moved forward, and tilted up in the rear, more.

Going to get those two button holes drilled and fitted now, then fine tune the wing wire.

Reference magazine #6 car.

I've convinced myself this is the right depth and angle of the wing, but could use some other opinions.

I'll wait to trim the lower fairing on the wing until I have the depth and angle set correctly. If I have it wrong, please let me know. Thanks!

Looks amazing. I have a very nice box art RC10, but for for me this is really the iconic RC10 look. Especially that side view shot from the ad. The styling and everything about it is warm and fuzzy. I want to do a jammin jay inspired body for one of mine. Not the exact same because I could never get it close. Just something with that styling. Hopefully some day soon.
But this one is sharp!

Much thanks, really appreciate that! Completely agree about the iconic style of the JJH paint job, the Hot VWs & Dune Buggies magazine colors are fitting, imo.

Got the wing and decal sheets today. Didn't want to cut the vintage wing I have for this.
Image

Image

What's different from the MCI-Racing decal sheet is the JG decal and the American flag for the hood are the correct scale, and the same size as the '85 IFMAR car. Also the JG mfg. front bumper decal has a period at the end of mfg., MCI doesn't.

Going to remove the old decals and put on the new ones. Having a hard time drilling an antenna hole in the Andy's body, not sure I will.

This might help with the wing setup?

I was going for the actual car that won the '85 IFMAR 2WD buggy race, not the magazine cars. Thanks though!
Image

Image

JJH came in 2nd place in the 4WD buggy class, here's the actual #4 4WD JJH car from that race.
Image

Jay had said in a recent interview with AE, that he was actively still racing that 2WD RC10 when the magazine's later asked him to take the pictures of it, that we're familiar with now. So by the time the magazine's photographed it, the body had changed a bit.
Image

Image

I bought the magazine wing originally.
Image

Image

Image

But now I want to replicate the '85 IFMAR wing instead, thanks to AE and JJH for making this possible, for all of us.

The angle is already cut in the new JJH wing.

Can't have a proper '85 IFMAR tribute car, without the Tx.
Image

Airtronics XL 2P.
Image

Figured I better clean the 40 years of dirt off of it. May have gotten carried away with the cleaning.
Image

Will get this Tx back together, and then finish the decals and wing.

Tx is good as new again.
Image

Going to use 3M clear tape, instead of white servo tape, to put the wing together.

These are the Tamiya Falcon tires (still sold new on ebay), they say Off Roader on the sidewall, and are the closest thing to the vintage Tamiya Holiday Buggy tires, the ones that JJH used in the '85 IFMAR race.
Image
The Falcon tires have one extra spike on each side of the tire, that makes them incorrect. The Holiday Buggy tires have the pattern of (2) spikes, and then (3) spikes. Falcon tires are (4) spikes and (3) spikes. Could trim the outer spikes on the Falcon tires, to get as close as possible.
Image

I'm using the Pro-Line Champion tires from '85, instead, because they're my favorite from the era.

Got the 40th Anniversary JJH wing assembled, and all the properly scaled decals installed.
Image

Image

Check out the size difference of the magazine wing and decals, versus the correctly scaled wing and decals used on the IFMAR car, that now come with the JJH 40th.
Image

Since I can't find any pictures of the '85 IFMAR cars right-hand side, interpreted it my own way.
Image

Image

The original cars are really nice, everything about this A-stamp reminds me that they don't make them like they used to anymore.

Thanks to all those who helped and followed along on this one!

Calling this completed. Will find a shelf for it, and enjoy it for many years to come.
