Help me do 40+
Hey guys, just signed up and it seems like the 40th builds posts have kinda fizzled out. But I just finished mine and burned some rubber and thought for sure she was hitting 40. Bought the GPS thing and although it feels gnarly fast, it's apparently only 35.
Modern electronics-wise i guess my question would be how to program the esc settings, adjustable timing, etc. And if those adjustments can get me faster?
My last car was my og rc10 35 years ago. Not really understanding the settings instructions for the ESC
Setup:
Stock 40th build. Reedy SP5 10.5 brushless motor, 20t pinion, Reedy 610R Blackbox ESC and Zappers 7.6v 8200mah 2s lipo. Blackbox programmer reading on first run said it hit 33,670 RPM and GPS said 35mph.
Have not adjusted ANYTHING yet. Is there 5mph to squeeze out of the ESC settings I guess is my ultimate question......thanks.

Re: Help me do 40+
Add dynamic timing and you'll be hitting 50

Re: Help me do 40+
In its simplest form "boost" timing ramps in more timing up to full throttle, "turbo" ramps in further timing beyond full throttle.
Without overly complicated explanations this is a good basic rundown that I found online

Not as scary as you'd think........
Original 6-gear street basher, using "bargain basement" electronics..... Turnigy Trackstar 10.5T with adjustable timing, Hobby King X-car 45A ESC.

Re: Help me do 40+
What you can do to get more speed will depend on how long you drive it, and what your esc/motor temperature's are when your done running. Whether your just doing a quick speed run and then stopping, or driving around at speed for awhile or until the batter dies, once your done I would check your temps. At the end of your run I would keep the temps between 160°F-180°F at the most for the overall longevity of the electronics. If your under that then ESC timing, or motor timing (if your motor is capable) will definitely get you faster. Adding timing to either of those will create more heat so I would check temps after each adjustment. You can also go with a couple tooth bigger pinion gear or a smaller tooth spur gear. If you really want to get crazy you can add some fans.

I build RCs like people would have done back in the '90s ..................................... if they had 3D printers.

Re: Help me do 40+
Not scared of 40. 35 drives like a dream. Fast and smooth as glass.
Definitely worried about grenade-ing the stock transmission.
I chose the 20t pinion by way of all the math to get a fdr close to the 7.2 ish range based on reading a ton of recommendations on this site and elsewhere.
Have the slipper set exactly per tuning instructions.
Esc has a fan. The programmer recorded max temp yesterday at 35*c around 95*F after about 30 mins of full throttle passes. Not sure how hot the motor got.
Looking for street tires that will fit stock wheels and can't find anything....
I'm hesitant to mess with esc programmer but I think I'll give it a try. Sounds like the turbo timing is where I should start.?
Thanks for all the tips so far!!

And yes, sky rc GPS performance tracker thing. (Still trying to figure out what settings like track or drag on the app and how to read it)

Re: Help me do 40+
Went into esc settings and added 5* on turbo timing.....
Got to 37....
Motor at 102*F after 15mins of full throttle passes. (Temp gun)
Keep going on the timing? Am I pushing my luck?

Re: Help me do 40+
Add a little bit of boost timing as well.
