Is there value in an original Grasshopper vs re-release?
I saw one of these for sale as part of an RC lot. If the body hadn't been painted red I would consider making it my first shelf dweller. I assume its an original, it has a mechanical speed control and just looks the part.
I remember this car being nothing short of an obsession for me when I was 10-11 yrs old. This was before I saw the image of the RC10 that is at the top of this forum. At 10 yrs old obsession are easily swayed. I never aquired the grasshopper but I was able to find a used and slightly modded RC10 much later on.

If its a shelf display car then an original is the way to go, if you want to run it then get a new one, there's not much difference in the relative cost as the Grass Hopper was a very popular car back in the day (had one myself) so there are plenty about.
If a jobs not worth doing then its certainly not worth doing well.
A problem shared is a problem halved but an advantage shared is no advantage at all.

I’m getting ready to build two rereleases. A Grasshopper is one of them. Are there any gotchas building it? I know it’s a simple car just want to cover my bases as this is for someone else.

Here is a page that links all my rere Grasshopper step by step build videos. It is a pretty easy build, so you shouldn't have any issues. If you do, this will give you something else to use to help figure it out. If you have any questions feel free to ask. https://getagriprc.com/f/tamiya-grasshopper-candy-green-edition-build
