Kyosho Corvette ZR-1

Post by Dangeruss »

In 1989 Kyosho released the Corvette ZR-1 as a 1/10 gas powered on-road companion to the Rampage 1/10 off-road gas buggy. Sharing the same platform meant the ZR-1 utilized the same aluminum plate chassis and molded nylon construction, including the bulkhead mounted four-wheel independent suspension with lower a-arms and fixed camber links. Aluminum capped nylon bodied oil-filled coilover shocks were mounted on aluminum shock towers and the twin bellcrank steering system retained its built-in servo saver, adjustable tie rods connected to inline axle blocks, and aluminum top plate tied to the front bulkhead for strength. The top-of-the-line O.S. .12 CZ-R engine with recoil starter sat in the same midship position and delivered power through a pinion and spur primary drive turning a bearing mounted prop shaft with belt final drive to connect to the bevel geared differential while metal dogbones sent the power out past plastic rear carriers. Kyosho then fit a highly detailed lexan representation of the namesake Corvette ZR-1 body and silver machine finished plastic wheels shod in 320/35/20 Bridgestone Potenza radial pattern tires. The ZR-1 was sold as a partially assembled kit with bushings, less radio and batteries for the receiver and glow plug ignitor pack.
