What kind of madman designed this?

Post by Brendan2904 »

Seriously, what kind of madman designed this wing attachment on the Schumacher Cougar (Classic and ReRe) buggy? I mean seriously? O rings and pins and prayers? Holy 💩 !

Cecil Schumacher, Borg-Warner engineer, Cosworth engineer, world-renown vintage grand prix car transmission builder

Seriously though, twisty ties are your friend. Take a small flat screwdriver and push the o-ring into the wing mount. Push the pin through. Now put a twisty (I cut them short) through both loops. Push the ends of the twisty through the mount. Pull the twisty until one of the loops of the o-ring slips onto a hook. Grab the other loop with you fingers and pull it over the other hook.

As wacky as it is, it actually works pretty well to save the wing in a rollover. It is a carry over from the Top Cat. It didn't seem so out of place on the Top Cat because the TC also had the o-ring "crash back" setup on the front arms.

If you get the optional rear tower from Schumacher, it comes with conventional wing mounts from their recent buggies.

If you get the Factory Works rear tower, you use the B6 wing mounts.

He said in one of the re-re videos "o-rings were cheap".

I thought it was pretty weird too on the TopCat wing, but now I think it's interesting. 🤔😂

I agree. It is one of the weird wonky things that make a Schuey a Schuey. The Bosscat has a "refined" version of the same setup (just one hook per side).

I don't know if this is true, but I suspect the crash-back wing mount was a (over)reaction to the CAT wing wire, which would bend if you sneezed near it.

There are options if you don’t want to use it

Get gomach5 to send you some of these and use b6 wing mounts

https://factoryworks.com/shop/ols/products/fwsccst

Or get a cougar 2 tower from fibrelyte in the Uk and use the Schumacher u3850 wing mounts.

May look crazy but it used to save losing or breaking Texan wings 👍🏼

I got it together. It is just something that I have never experienced in the hobby and it was weird. I’m going to keep it this way for now lol.
