Edinger Silver dot 6510??

Hey experts!! Reedy silver dot question…

Part number is 6510 East Edinger address. I picked this guy up off of eBay with a best offer grab with my Jay Halsey kit as its intended resting spot. The motor looks as it was described, new. I was disappointed not to find any labeling at all on the com stack. The 6510 part number info doesn’t jive with the known information I’ve seen. The packaging label showing 6510 off-road modified would suggest a higher winding than what 6510 shows in the compiled list info.

Assuming that’s Kevlar wrap below the com straps? It’s a single wind, and this one has hex hardware for assembling bolts which I’ve seen on some searching pics online. I was always under the assumption the silver dot off-road mods would be in the 19-low 20ish wind area, and watching the Halsey videos, Jim said they used the silver dots and the gearing he mentioned seemed super aggressive for anything but a higher wind.

You showed me yours so I'll show ya mine...

It's a single wind and 16 is written on all 3 sides of the arm. Like you, I had thought a silver dot would've been something in the low 20s but that was based on what the silver dot meant in the later Ultra Series motors. Also I wouldn't have pegged a green label motor as being the 6510 in the catalog as I thought all on road motors would have either a yellow or red label. I got my motor in a lot with a yellow label Ultra Series motor that has a 29x2 arm in it and I was pretty convinced before that the two motors had had the arms swapped...but maybe not. A 16x1 does make a bit more sense in an Edinger era road/oval motor.

It's also worth mentioning that the 6510 part number got re-used for the Espirit (E-S) series motors where it's a 13T oval motor.

Thanks! The wire size on ours def looks similar. The tag on mine said off-road. I guess it could have been marketed either way, but a 16 single would be considered pretty hot for off-road middle 80s wouldn’t it? When I get home from work I’ll open it up again and look at it with my glasses and extra light, maybe it’s got some marking that’s just super faded.

Your 6510 header card was restapled. The older Edinger motors typically did not have a lead or cap(s) soldered. Motor plug should most likely be white since the black plug started with the Ultra wet mag Caddy and was soldered on most if not all of them. Hard to say if a silver dot and that motor belongs in that packaging.

Yeah, I thought that about the card and plug too, I knew it was a later thing to have the black one. No surprise that it could have gotten a connector and caps soldered on at some point. Not too concerned there. It’s definately new, and authentic motor just more of a mystery on what the silver dot on it means guess.

According to the Edinger catalog all Reedy motors had caps, and the lead wire plug on the motor pictured is black.

Also while searching posts for more info I noticed you own(ed) a Gold Dot with part# 6511 which wouldn't be part of the Ultra Series. The Ultra Series Gold dot had part# 6524.

6510 being a silver dot and 6511 being gold sorta makes sense.

Anything is possible. It's also possible the motor in the advert is used. I've had several nip ones over the years. My 05 Club Racer Edinger didn't have a soldered lead, and I think the caps were separate as well. The 6511 gold dot you are referencing was a dry mag. I suppose the plug color was all over the place as well.

Great info guys! I have not had a chance to reopen the motor yet, decided instead I wanted to dye my 10L plastics black instead! The wife is not excited about my hijacking of her stove for my project!!

I didn’t get a chance to open the motor again. Dye project expanded into a “since I’ve got the dye out…” thing.

How do the magnets feel on yours? Guessing they are just weaker from age or being stored next to who knows what for its whole life.

It feels weaker than the Ultra Series, and other post '87 Yoke, motors I have, but just as strong as the pre '87 Yoke motor I have. Which should be the case since the later cans used better magnets.

Thought this was interesting, my Prototype RC10 book came in today and its showing a red label reedy modified with the black connector and hex fasteners on the end bell hardware.
