What was I thinking?? The R/C Edition

Post by THEYTOOKMYTHUMB »

Any R/C related regrets?

I sold all the nitro parts for my GT for peanuts when I converted it to electric years ago. And put these ridiculous tires on it. I plan to return it to its former glory.

And here I thought I was bad for crudely cutting a rectangular hole in my JRX chassis....for lightness.

Cutting the kickup off a really nice jrx2 chassis.

Back in the day, trying to turn my Optima into an on-road car; I had a 1969 Charger body for it. Look closely, I think that's white hockey stick tape on the speed controller wires...

I wish I had pictures but like many I remember drilling holes into my RC10 chassis after seeing the article in RCCA about making it lighter and seeing pics of the pros RC10's all drilled out. All drilled by hand with a Craftsman corded drill.. all misaligned.. chassis spinning around in circles cutting off fingers. I even cut too much off around the rear bulkhead and weakened the only area stopping the chassis from bending at the back...

One thing I still regret is passing on the RC10GT blue chassis roller, I think it was Robb (morrisey0) sold a while back for a silly low price. Every time I see or think of a RC10GT, I think of that deal and kick myself square in the gonads.

I walked all the rooms about 1-1.5 years ago, and came up with 100+ that are at least rollers. It has only grown from there. I don't try to think about it.

To try to count the list of regrets I have made in RC over the past 3ish years would simple take too long to write out. I get in a mood to build something one way, and will literally change my mind the next.

But to play along with the original theme of making a nitro-to-electric mistake, I present my GV Hunter. Great buggy I picked up for super cheap, which is the only reason I bought a nitro at the time, and I then did a pretty lengthy rebuild of it and converted it to electric ................ and then placed it on the shelf. And within minutes started asking myself why I spent so much time and money to convert a car just to put it on a shelf. The original design was just fantastic as it was; there was no reason for me to fawk with it.

I build RCs like people would have done back in the '90s ..................................... if they had 3D printers.
