Associated RC300 1/8 scale project No. 2 - custom build
Some guys might remember my RC300 project, building a new car from spare parts.
I just realized this was 7 years ago. Well, times fly ...
The project was for building a plain basic RC300 car.
So the name is RC300 Basic.
This car still belongs to my collection and I really like the look. Because it was the roots for any upgraded RC300 later, and for the look of being the big brother to the RC12E Electric.
But I always wanted to build another version which will feature several upgrades, option parts whatever. A custom build car.
It is not sure yet how this car will look like in the end. I have a rough plan for the way to go, but some ideas might be realized or replaced by others.
For telling the truth, I actually plan to build several versions. Well, if there are enough parts that is.
When building a new project, my goal always is a perfect, natural look.
This means, I prepare the parts in the beginning. Deburring parts and removing traces from manufacturing, if possible. But I don´t polish parts or overdo deburring.
Finally a careful multi stage cleaning process.
Overall this means spending quite some time for each single process. Not the fast way with throwwing parts together.
But all the cars build this way so far, did really shine.
Another important fact to me is using vintage hardware. I collected many screws, nuts, washers etc. from broken kits or as offered by manufacturers at that timeframe.

Bumper, radio plate and mounting posts.
The radio plate will be replaced later by the fiberglass version. But this one was not available for the photo to be made.

Now parts will be cleaned and prepared.
This takes some time.
Not sure if I´m able posting updates each single day. But please check.
Also everybody is invited for comments or questions.

Definitely watching this one!!
I can't even imagine how long it would take to create that parts pile!
On my 150, I feel like every single needed part is a workout!
But on my 150, I am building it the "fast way with throwing parts together."

I build RCs like people would have done back in the '90s ..................................... if they had 3D printers.

Thanks for watching the build. Well, I had ummh ... more than 10 years to build the pile.
As I found out my first RC300 build had been in 2017. And this was after building another pile for ... I don´t know ... maybe another 5 or 10 years.
But it´s the same thing always. You collect parts which you got as doubles or triples, but still missing parts ...

Thanks for watching.
It is actually just a fraction of the parts. Also containing unneeded parts, which will be replaced later.
I mean there are improved parts or option parts which will go into this build. But shown at a later time.
So it is showing where the build begins.

Yes, really impressive collection of parts. Very familiar problem collecting for years ending up with multiples of some and still missing essential parts. Looking forward to this classic and rare to see build!

Thank you. It´s not only about multiples of parts and missing other parts. It´s even more about multiples of unfinished projects for that reasonLurkingCAT wrote: ↑Mon Nov 11, 2024 4:22 pm Yes, really impressive collection of parts. Because of this I wanted to do an other project which looks more promising. I mean which could be really finished at some point ... maybe

BTW you still collect Hirobo cars?

One of the next steps is to build the front end.
It will be somewhat different to the basic RC300.
Step one, the 15° machined front arms replace the stock parts. Quite hard to find those parts now.
Please see the picture for comparing both versions.
