Traxxas Vector

Post by Dangeruss »

In 1991 Traxxas did not release a 1/10 2wd electric racing buggy they named the Vector. Some R/C vehicles remain unknown to the majority of enthusiasts due to either limited releases by small manufactures or marketing snafus by larger ones, and no single company has more models in its lineup that fit the latter description than the ever-expanding list from Traxxas. In this instance, at the height of Traxxas' racing program, their newest buggy was to be called the Victor but Traxxas discovered Airtronics was using that name for a transmitter. So sticking with their own birds of prey theme they chose to call it the Talon only to find out that too was taken, this time by Chrysler’s Eagle Division. Traxxas finally settled on an alphanumeric scheme for their machine and in 1991 fans and racers were presented with the Traxxas TRX-1. Some dismissed the story at the time as Traxxas manufactured theatrics, though it becomes much harder to refute when you see the car in print:

The prototype pictured is pretty interesting. It is more in line with the pics of S. Montgomery's "TRX-1" that are around the net. 1950 rear arms, 1988 lexan gear cover on the 1990 motor plate with 1989 motor guard. Similar wheels but not production.
Maybe the 2750 arms made up for the offset. Overly optimistic release date as well. Cool post.
Hope you're doin' something fun.
