Team Losi XXX

In 1999 Team Losi reinvented their 1/10 2wd off-road buggy with the release of their newest model, the XXX. Just as the Double-X buggy was a leap forward from the JRX, so to was the Triple-X compared to the Double-X, sharing only a few major components between the two vehicles. The XXX, underpinned by a softly contoured .165 inch longer molded composite mini tub with a subtle center bulge for the battery tunnel, featured removeable nose and tail sections sculped to match the chassis. Attached to the nose was a .3inch narrower front bulkhead with replaceable a-arm mounting plate leading to .4 inch shorter arms which when combined with the .6 inch wider hub carriers and trailing style floating hubs with larger bearings on each side plus the included axle spacers it allowed the XXX to run both narrow and wide wheels & tires without exceeding IFMAR's width restrictions. Bulkhead mounted turnbuckle camber links ran in front of the oil filled, teflon coated Hard Body coilover shocks with adjustable collars that, along with a shorter fiberglass plate front shock tower, were moved rearward for a lower center of gravity without resorting to shorter shocks. The turnbuckle adjustable bellcrank steering with built-in servo saver and adjustable Akerman was also improved by placing the bellcrank pivots at the same 30-degree angle as the front kickup while a smaller chassis stiffening x-brace crossed over the servo. The tail section included an integrated molded composite shock tower supporting shorter oil-filled, teflon coated Hard Body coilover shocks with adjustable spring collars. Rear arms carried over from the XX buggy and were sandwiched between the 3-degree inner pivots and revised outer hub carriers, located by turnbuckle adjustable camber links. Center stage however was the XXX-spec, upright, 2.43 ratio, 3-gear, ball diff transmission that moved the motor .35 inches forward and sported an aluminum motor plate, separate plastic motor cage and XX top shaft allowing the use of the included double slipper clutch, Losi's Hydra-Drive, or other aftermarket components. Steel universal style axles would lead to single piece dish rear wheels with Losi Silver Compound Taper Pin tires out back and single piece dish wheels with Losi Silver Compound Ribbed tires up front, all spinning on a full complement of bearings. A new clear lexan 4wd style fastback body and rear wing with molded plastic mounts skinned the XXX buggy which was sold as an unassembled kit less radio and electronics:
